The unprecedented Pacific Northwest heatwave of June 2021

Rachel H. White et al.

Summary: The unprecedented 2021 heatwave in the Pacific Northwest region broke temperature records by extraordinary amounts. The impacts were catastrophic, causing deaths, mass-mortalities of marine life, wildfires, reduced crop yields, and river flooding.

Rockfall and Rainfall Correlation in the Anaga Nature Reserve in Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain)

Sergio Leyva et al.

Summary: Rockfalls are frequent and damaging phenomena that occur on steep slopes, coastal areas, mountains, and coastal cliffs. Precipitation, especially heavy storms, plays a significant role in triggering rockfalls. This study analyzes rainfall-induced rockfalls in Anaga, Tenerife to improve the capability to respond and make emergency decisions. By analyzing historical rainfall data and rockfall events, reliable thresholds for forecasting rockfalls can be defined, providing guidance for road maintenance services and resource mobilization.

Projected effects of climate change on shallow landslides, North Shore Mountains, Vancouver, Canada

Matthias Jakob et al.

Summary: Research in southwest British Columbia suggests that climate change will lead to increased frequency and volume of shallow landslides and debris flows. The increase in landslide frequency since 1981 has doubled, with an average volume increase of 7-fold. Models project a potential 300% increase in landslide frequency and a 50% increase in average landslide volume by the end of the century.
