Vibration phase difference analysis of long-span suspension bridge during flutter

Lianhuo Wu et al.

Summary: The research on vibration characteristics of long-span bridges is crucial for flutter analysis, but there is limited literature on the phase difference characteristic of the full bridge. This study aimed to investigate the vibration phase difference characteristics and mechanism along the main span during flutter. Time-domain flutter analysis was conducted in a long-span suspension bridge. The results revealed phase differences in vibration at the same positions in different directions, as well as at different positions in the same direction of the main girder and main cable, which varied along the main span. The findings provide insights into the flutter performance and mechanism of long-span bridges.

Pair-Copula-based trivariate joint probability model of wind speed, wind direction and angle of attack

Jinxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: This study investigates the wind field distribution and the impact of different incoming flows on structures at a deep-cut gorge bridge site. By establishing joint probability models and using the PSB-IFORM method, the most unfavorable combination of design wind parameters can be identified. The proposed method effectively addresses the challenges in solving multi-peak joint probability distribution models.

Environmental contours for wind-resistant bridge design in complex terrain

Dario Fernandez Castellon et al.

Summary: Accurate estimation of extreme wind fields is crucial for long-span bridge design. This study proposes using the environmental contour method (ECM) to consider uncertainties in turbulence model parameters and obtain long-term extreme wind fields. The ECM provides a more complete and intuitive description of the wind field compared to current design methods, making it suitable for new bridge sites.

Observations of periodic thermally-developed winds beside a bridge region in mountain terrain based on field measurement

Yongle Li et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the correlation between wind speed and temperature in the periodic thermally-developed wind prevalent in mountain terrain, with other intense winds also considered. By analyzing long-term measured data, a framework is established to accurately obtain wind field characteristics, showing significant fluctuations in wind parameters in relation to wind speed and attack angle. The nonstationary model effectively describes the power spectrum of pulsating components in intense wind events, providing valuable insights for the structural durability and comfort of wind-sensitive structures in mountain terrain.

Field measurement analysis of wind parameters and nonstationary characteristics in mountainous terrain: Focusing on cooling windstorms

Fanying Jiang et al.

Summary: This study aims to extract and analyze cooling windstorms from wind field observation data and study the temporal variations of wind speed and wind parameters. Based on long-term field measurements, a framework for identifying cooling windstorms is established, and their nonstationary characteristics are identified. The study also proposes a method to select the optimal wavelet decomposition levels for extracting time-varying mean wind using discrete wavelet transform.

Multi-point field measurement study of wind characteristics in mountain terrain: Focusing on periodic thermally-developed winds

Mingjin Zhang et al.

Summary: The mixed wind climate in mountain terrain includes periodic thermally-developed winds and synoptic winds. The study shows that the local topography affects the wind parameters of periodic thermally-developed wind. The inconsistency of wind characteristics in time and space makes the wind load design of wind-sensitive infrastructures in mountain terrain become very complex.

Field measurement study of wind characteristics in mountain terrain: Focusing on sudden intense winds

Fanying Jiang et al.

Summary: This study conducted a systematic field measurement of intense wind events in a mountainous area of southwestern China, identifying a series of sudden intense wind events and proposing an automatic classification method. It was found that sudden intense winds have relatively strong nonstationary characteristics, which are of significant importance for wind-resistant design of long-span bridges.

Comparison of wind characteristics in different directions of deep-cut gorges based on field measurements

Jinxiang Zhang et al.

Summary: The study shows that wind characteristic parameters of bridge sites vary greatly between directions, and the influence of wind direction on wind parameters distribution should be considered. The wind resistance of structures should take into account the combined effect of wind speed and incoming flow direction.

Trivariate joint probability model of typhoon-induced wind, wave and their time lag based on the numerical simulation of historical typhoons

Kai Wei et al.

Summary: This study developed a trivariate joint probability model considering the relationship between wind, wave, and time lag. Findings suggest that more than 50% of typhoons at the example site have the maximum wind lagging behind the maximum wave. Higher typhoon-induced wind speed and wave height tend to occur simultaneously.
