Echocardiographic reference intervals for right ventricular indices, including 3-dimensional volume and 2-dimensional strain measurements in healthy dogs

Elisabeth K. Feldhuetter et al.

Summary: This study conducted a prospective investigation on healthy adult client-owned dogs of various breeds and ages to establish echocardiographic reference intervals for right ventricular structure and function, demonstrating clinically acceptable repeatability for most variables. The calculated limits for each index were determined, both with and without allometric normalization, providing valuable insights into RV assessment in canines.

Ultrasonographic evaluation of the caudal vena cava in dogs with right-sided heart disease

T. Fujioka et al.

Summary: This study found that measuring the caudal vena cava diameter and echocardiographic variables can accurately diagnose right-sided congestive heart failure in dogs with right heart disease. The ratios of the smallest diameter of the caudal vena cava to the aorta diameter and the ratio of the smallest diameter to the largest diameter of the caudal vena cava area during inspiration have high sensitivity and specificity in identifying right-sided congestive heart failure in dogs.

Thirteen dogs and a cat with ultrasonographically detected gallbladder wall edema associated with cardiac disease

Gregory R. Lisciandro et al.

Summary: Ultrasound-detected gallbladder wall edema (GBWE) is associated with cardiac disease in this study, with dogs mainly diagnosed with pericardial effusion. Findings included gallbladder wall thickening, pericardial effusion, dilatation of caudal vena cava and hepatic veins, as well as ascites in some dogs.

Focused ultrasound of the caudal vena cava in dogs with cavitary effusions or congestive heart failure: A prospective, observational study

Yen-Yu Chou et al.

Summary: The study compared ultrasonographic indices of the inferior vena cava in dogs with right-sided congestive heart failure, left-sided congestive heart failure, and noncardiac causes of cavitary effusion. The results showed that dogs with higher right heart filling pressures had lower CVC indices, while dogs with left-sided CHF had measurements intermediate between the two groups.

The expected frequency and amount of free peritoneal fluid estimated using the abdominal FAST-applied abdominal fluid scores in healthy adult and juvenile dogs

Gregory R. Lisciandro et al.

Summary: This study aimed to estimate the frequency and amount of free peritoneal fluid in healthy juvenile and adult dogs using the AFAST abdominal fluid scoring system. The results showed differences in abdominal fluid scores between juveniles and adults, with most dogs having fluid dimensions within normal ranges. The study concluded that the DH view was most frequently positive for peritoneal fluid in dogs.
