Effects of nanoclay cloisite 20A and alkali treatments on structure-property relationships of bagasse/recycled polypropylene nanocomposites

Effects of multiple extrusions on structure-property relationships of hybrid wood flour/poly (vinyl chloride) composites

Summary: This study focuses on the closed-loop recycling of wood flour/poly(vinyl chloride) composites and evaluates its effects on the material properties. The recycled composites showed reduced bending strength, modulus of elasticity, and impact strength, except for those recycled four times. However, the impact strength remained almost unchanged after the first recycling cycle. The water absorption rate of the reprocessed composites was generally lower, and the hemicellulose hydroxyl groups also decreased, making the recycled composites less hydrophilic. The mechanical loss factor of the reprocessed composites increased, indicating a more viscous nature. The glass transition temperature of Rec4 composites increased due to polymer dehydrochlorination and cross-linking.

Summary: The development of environmentally friendly and energy-saving green composites, utilizing natural reinforcements and plant-derived polymers, is a current focus area in response to environmental limitations and depletion of oil-based resources. Advances in characterization and multifunctional properties of agro-waste fibres and polymers, along with research into modification of natural fibres and processing techniques, are shaping the future prospects and challenges for this innovative class of materials.

Effects of fungal biodegradation on structure-property relationships of medium density fibre board and hybrid polypropylene composite made from sugar-cane residue

Summary: The study found that Trametes versicolor had different effects on sugar-cane residue polypropylene composite and medium density fibre board, with the latter being more susceptible to degradation. The elastic modulus of the composites and hardness of MDFs were most adversely affected under fungal attack.
