Pyrolysis of tea and coffee wastes: effect of physicochemical properties on kinetic and thermodynamic characteristics

Asma Ben Abdallah et al.

Summary: The physicochemical properties, kinetic pyrolysis, and thermodynamic study of various types of biomass waste (spent green tea, pure spent coffee grounds, spent coffee grounds blended with 50% torrefied barley and coffee husk) were experimentally investigated. The study revealed the activation energy profiles and decomposition stages of the different biomass constituents, indicating that lignin decomposition was the most demanding. The results showed that these biomass wastes have significant reactivity and potential for the production of bioenergy and high-value chemicals and materials.

Combustion characteristics and synergistic effects during co-combustion of lignite and lignocellulosic components under oxy-fuel condition

Zhongzheng Xiao et al.

Summary: Co-combustion of lignocellulosic biomass and coal has been recognized as a promising route to achieve carbon neutrality. In this study, the combustion characteristics of lignocellulosic biomass main components and lignite were investigated under air and oxy-fuel conditions. Cellulose and hemicellulose showed better combustion reactivity than lignite, while lignin had worse reactivity. Wood components had positive synergies with lignite on char oxidation.

Effect of slow pyrolysis conditions on biocarbon yield and properties: Characterization of the volatiles

B. Babinszki et al.

Summary: Slow pyrolysis of spruce and birch was conducted under different heating programs and conditions in a quartz tube reactor heated by an electric furnace. The study found that spruce produced more char yield than birch, and the main gaseous products showed similar evolution profiles. The relative amount of aromatic and polyaromatic compounds in volatile matter decreased significantly with increasing carbonization temperature.

Pyrolysis and combustion of community masks: Thermogravimetric analyses, characterizations, gaseous emissions, and kinetic modeling

Alain Brillard et al.

Summary: Used community masks, containing synthetic components, contribute to pollution when discarded or scattered. Pyrolysis or combustion could be explored as methods for processing these masks. Differences in kinetic parameters between masks and their components were observed, with potential implications for pollution control strategies.

Study of Combustion Characteristics and Kinetics of Agriculture Briquette Using Thermogravimetric Analysis

Jianbiao Liu et al.

Summary: The study investigated the physicochemical properties and combustion characteristics of corn straw briquette as a fuel energy. It was found that corn straw briquette has higher volatile matter, lower ash content, and higher heating value, with the maximum burning rate shifting to a higher temperature as the heating rate increased. The results also showed that a lower heating rate could lead to better heat transfer and less mass residual, while a higher heating rate resulted in improved combustion performance.

Thermokinetic analysis and product characterization of waste tire-hazelnut shell co-pyrolysis: TG-FTIR and fixed bed reactor study

Nejmi Soyler et al.

Summary: The study investigated the synergetic effects of waste tires and hazelnut shell biomass during co-pyrolysis, revealing an interaction that influenced product distribution and reaction kinetics. Analysis of pyrolytic oil from fixed bed experiments demonstrated improved properties due to co-pyrolysis.
