Experimental study on mechanical properties and microstructure of metakaolin based geopolymer stabilized silty clay

Yiping Luo et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the effectiveness of geopolymer in improving the silty clay soil by enhancing its strength, stability, and microstructure. MKG has shown significant improvement in the mechanical properties of soil, with higher performance compared to lime and ordinary Portland cement stabilization. The formation of cementitious materials and denser microstructure in soil stabilized by MKG were confirmed by SEM observation and EDS analysis.

Thermal behaviour and microstructural evolution of metakaolin and meta-halloysite-based geopolymer binders: a comparative study

Cyriaque Rodrigue Kaze et al.

Summary: The study compared the physicochemical properties of geopolymer synthesized from halloysite and kaolinite clays at different heating temperatures. The flexural strength, shrinkage, and thermal conductivity of the geopolymer were significantly affected by the temperature, with noticeable differences between the two clay precursors.

Investigation on the impact of different activator to solid ratio on properties and micro-structure of metakaolin geopolymer

Feng Bowen et al.

Summary: The aim of this paper is to investigate the effects of different activator-to-solid ratios on the performance of metakaolin geopolymer and to study its microstructural mechanisms using SEM and FT-IR. The experimental results showed that higher activator-to-solid ratios improved fluidity, consistency, and setting time, and reduced water consumption. SEM and FT-IR tests revealed that increasing the activator-to-solid ratio improved the polyaluminum silicate structure, while excessive sodium silicate reduced strength.

Determination of the origin of the strength regain after self-healing of binary and ternary cementitious materials including slag and metakaolin

Carol Youssef Namnoum et al.

Summary: A mechanical assessment and microstructure study of complex cementitious materials with mineral additions showed that ternary compositions may exhibit better self-healing performance compared to single or binary compositions. Mechanical tests indicated better stiffness recovery for specimens prepared from the ternary mixture, possibly due to newly formed products precipitated in the cracks.
