Enhancement in the pool boiling heat transfer of copper surface by applying electrophoretic deposited graphene oxide coatings

Hasan Alimoradi et al.

Summary: The boiling characteristics of a copper surface coated with graphene oxide (GO) using the electro-phoretic deposition (EPD) method are presented. Three different concentrations of GO solutions (1, 3, and 5 mg/ml) were tested. The coated surfaces exhibited improved surface properties, resulting in rapid cooling and rewetting of hot and dry points. Different electrolyte concentrations and coatings were tested to optimize the heat transfer coefficient (HTC) and critical heat flux (CHF). The HTC and CHF were improved by 60.3% and 90.5%, respectively, for the 1 mg/ml GO coating compared to the uncoated surface.

Enhanced pool boiling heat transfer of multilayer copper-nanoparticle-packed beds by copper mesh coating

Zhihao Zhong et al.

Summary: This study combines the advantages of copper mesh and multilayer nanoparticle-packed beds to improve pool-boiling heat transfer. By adjusting the layer thickness and porosity of the beds and coating them with copper mesh, a significant enhancement in heat transfer performance can be achieved.

Experimental study on the pool boiling performance of a highly self-dispersion TiO2 nanofluid on copper surface

Tao Wen et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the pool boiling performance of TiO2 nanofluid and compared it with Al2O3 and ZnO nanofluid. The results showed that a super-hydrophilic micro-porous deposition layer formed on the nanofluid boiling surface, leading to almost twice higher critical heat flux (CHF) than distilled water. Nanofluid type and concentration had limited influence on CHF, while increasing concentration of nanofluid resulted in unpredictable boiling performance.

Experimental study of boiling heat transfer for a novel type of GNP-Fe3O4 hybrid nanofluids blended with different nanoparticles

Xu Ma et al.

Summary: This study focuses on functionalizing graphene nanoplatelets to improve hydrophobicity while maintaining good thermal properties, and preparing hybrid nanofluids for enhanced heat transfer. Novel GNP-Fe3O4 hybrid nanoparticles with high purity and hydrophilic functional groups were prepared. The addition of metal or non-metal nanoparticles improved the heat transfer characteristics of nanofluids. Experimental results showed significant enhancement in heat transfer properties compared to deionized water, with GNP-Fe3O4 + Al2O3 and GNP-Fe3O4 + SiO2 hybrid nanofluids exhibiting the best heat transfer effects.

Pool boiling heat transfer enhancement of aqueous solution with quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants on copper surface

Tao Wen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of adding four different concentrations of quaternary ammonium cationic surfactants on heat transfer performance during pool boiling. The results show that surfactants significantly enhance the heat transfer coefficient while decreasing the critical heat flux. Surfactants with smaller critical micelle concentrations exhibit higher heat transfer coefficients and lower critical heat fluxes at lower concentrations.

Experimental investigation of saturated nucleate pool boiling heat transfer characteristics of R245fa on a copper foam covered surface

Chao Dang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the saturated nucleate pool boiling heat transfer characteristics of copper foam covered surfaces and plain copper surfaces. The results showed that copper foam coating significantly improved the boiling heat transfer coefficient, while increased roughness of plain copper surfaces had minimal effect. Copper foam covered surfaces triggered nucleation at lower wall superheats, depending on the relationship between the size of the copper foam pores and active nucleation sites.

Experimental study of nucleate pool boiling heat transfer improvement utilizing micro/nanoparticles porous coating on copper surfaces

Hesam Moghadasi et al.

Summary: Surface coating using spin-coating technique was experimentally studied to enhance heat transfer in nucleate pool boiling of distilled water at atmospheric pressure. Improved surface roughness, porosity, and nucleation sites densities were achieved with surface coating, leading to enhanced boiling performance. Superior surface characteristics of micro/nanostructured coatings resulted in an enhanced heat transfer coefficient value.
