Agitation of Complex Fluids in Cylindrical Vessels by Newly Designed Anchor Impellers Bingham-Papanastasiou Fluids as a Case Study

Benhanifia Kada et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the fluid flow and power consumption in a vessel stirred by anchor impellers, specifically considering rheologically complex fluids modeled by the Bingham-Papanastasiou model. The study introduces modifications to the design of the anchor impeller, including the addition of a horizontal blade with varying inclination angles. The effects of different geometric configurations, such as the angle of the arm blades and the number of added horizontal blades, are examined. The findings reveal that the most efficient impeller design is one with arm blades inclined at 60 degrees, allowing for enhanced shearing and an expanded well-stirred region. Additionally, the Bingham number has a significant impact on the power input and the size of the stirred region.

Summary: This study compared the performance differences between conventional impeller and self-similarity impeller in fluid mixing process through experimental and computational analyses. The results showed that the self-similarity impeller had better mixing efficiency and lower power consumption compared to the conventional impeller.

Experimental and numerical investigation of the scale-up criterion of solid-viscous fluid mixing in a stirred tank

Summary: This study validates the scale-up criterion for non-Newtonian fluid mixing in stirred tanks through CFD simulation and experimental verification. The effectiveness of the scale-up criterion is proven by comparing kinematic similarity in non-Newtonian systems. The study also discusses the mechanism of flow regime transformation and demonstrates good performance in terms of scale effect of power consumption, particularly for the CMC2.0 solution system.
