Inhibition effects of ionic and non-ionic derivatives of imidazole compounds on hydrogen permeation during carbon steel pickling

Matheus G. Silva et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of imidazole-based compounds as hydrogen permeation inhibitors during carbon steel pickling in hydrochloric acid. The results show that the best corrosion inhibition does not always correspond to the best hydrogen permeation inhibition. The addition of 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate ([Bmim]BF4) and 1-butyl-3-methylimidazolium chloride ([Bmim]Cl) only resulted in low corrosion inhibition efficiency, but had a significant hydrogen permeation inhibition efficiency.

Adsorption of Gardenia jasminoides fruits extract on the interface of Cu/H2SO4 to inhibit Cu corrosion: Experimental and theoretical studies

Cheng Xu et al.

Summary: An eco-friendly corrosion inhibitor, Gardenia jasminoides fruits extract (GFE), was studied for its protective effect on copper in 0.5 mol.L-1 H2SO4. Various tests and methods were used to evaluate the inhibition efficiency of GFE, and results showed that GFE had a maximum inhibition efficiency of over 90% at different temperatures, reaching almost 93% at 298 K with a concentration of 400 mg/L. The adsorption model of GFE on the Cu surface was determined to be Langmuir adsorption. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) confirmed the bonding information. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and atomic force microscopy (AFM) demonstrated the protective effect of GFE on Cu. The anti-corrosion mechanism was further explored using quantum chemistry calculation and molecular dynamics simulation analysis.

Kameni Ngounou M. Bernard et al.

Summary: Two environmentally friendly materials (LGP and GBP) were successfully synthesized from local resources in Cameroon and their potential for removing Ni(II) and Co(II) from aqueous solutions was investigated. LGP had a higher specific surface area than GBP, but GBP exhibited stronger adsorption capacity, possibly due to the presence of negatively charged groups in its structure. LGP fitted well with Langmuir and Dubinin-Radushkevic models, while GBP was best described by the Freundlich model.

Superior inhibition action of the Mish Gush (MG) leaves extract toward mild steel corrosion in HCl solution: Theoretical and electrochemical studies

M. H. Shahini et al.

Summary: This study investigated the use of a novel corrosion inhibitor derived from the Lamb's ear plant to reduce corrosion damage on a metal surface caused by 1 M HCl solution. The results showed that the introduction of MG extract significantly decreased surface corrosion and roughness. High inhibition efficiency was achieved with increasing MGe concentration and exposure time, reaching 96% after 4 hours with 1200 ppm of MGe.
