Multimode Mamyshev oscillator

Henry Haig et al.

Summary: This study presents a spatiotemporally mode-locked Mamyshev oscillator and observes various multimode mode-locked states with different degrees of spatiotemporal coupling. It is found that some control over the modal content of the output beam is achievable through cavity design. Comparisons between simulations and experiments indicate that spatiotemporal mode locking is enabled by nonlinear intermodal interactions, spatial filtering, and the Mamyshev mechanism.

Direct observations of thermalization to a Rayleigh-Jeans distribution in multimode optical fibres

Hamed Pourbeyram et al.

Summary: This article introduces the optical nonlinearities in multimodal systems, which result in a thermalization process observed in graded-index fibres. Researchers directly observe the thermalization of mode power distribution using mode-resolved measurement techniques and verify the theoretical predictions.

Numerical analysis of beam self-cleaning in multimode fiber amplifiers

Mesay Addisu Jima et al.

Summary: Recent experiments have shown that beam self-cleaning or nonlinear beam reshaping can occur in active multimode fibers. This study numerically analyzes these processes by considering an ideal diode-pumped signal amplifier made of a graded-index multimode fiber with uniform Yb doping. Simulations confirm that beam cleaning can occur in amplifying fibers even without beam power conservation. Moreover, the study reveals how the locally generated signal intensity maxima from the self-imaging process can affect the population inversion of doping atoms and locally saturate the amplifier gain.

Observation of spatial nonlinear self-cleaning in a few-mode step-index fiber for special distributions of initial excited modes

Zahra Mohammadzahery et al.

Summary: In this paper, we experimentally demonstrate that a nonlinear Kerr effect in suitable coupling conditions can lead to spatial self-cleaning of output beams in a few-mode step-index fiber. The impact of the distribution of initial excited modes on spatial beam self-cleaning has been shown. It is also experimentally proven that under specific initial conditions, the output spatial pattern of the pulsed laser can be reshaped into the LP11 mode due to nonlinear coupling among propagating modes.

Weak beam self-cleaning of femtosecond pulses in the anomalous dispersion regime

Yuhang Wu et al.

Summary: Experiments were conducted on Kerr beam cleaning in graded-index multimode fiber with sub-nanosecond and femtosecond pulses at wavelengths characterized by normal dispersion. Weak beam cleaning was observed experimentally, with strong temporal evolution of the pulse. Numerical simulations qualitatively matched the experimental trends.
