Experimental realization of a reconfigurable Lieb photonic lattice in a coherent atomic medium

Shun Liang et al.

Summary: We have experimentally demonstrated the realization of an instantaneously reconfigurable Lieb photonic lattice in a three-level Λ-type rubidium atomic configuration. The lattice is optically induced by a coupling field possessing a spatially periodic intensity distribution under the condition of electromagnetically induced transparency. The observed probe beam at the output surface of the medium exhibits the same Lieb pattern, verifying the formation of the refractive index with a Lieb profile inside the atomic vapor cell. The potential wells and the band structure of the Lieb photonic lattice can be effectively manipulated by easily tuning the frequency of the involved laser beams. This work paves the way for exploring the exotic dynamics and tunable photonic devices in Lieb photonic lattices.

Imaging lattice switching with Talbot effect in reconfigurable non-Hermitian photonic graphene

Zhaoyang Zhang et al.

Summary: A non-Hermitian photonic graphene lattice is established using the optical induction method inside an atomic vapor cell, showing different intensity distributions and demonstrating the Talbot effect. This experiment provides a new platform for future exploration of non-Hermitian topological photonics.

Optically-Induced Symmetry Switching in a Reconfigurable Kagome Photonic Lattice: From Flatband to Type-III Dirac Cones

Qingsong Yu et al.

Summary: In this study, we demonstrate both experimentally and theoretically the transition of band structure from flatband to type-III Dirac cones in an electromagnetically induced Kagome photonic lattice. By manipulating the intensity of an additional one-dimensional periodic coupling field, the dispersion-less energy band can evolve into type-III Dirac cones with linear dispersion.

Experimental demonstration of optical Bloch oscillation in electromagnetically induced photonic lattices

Zhaoyang Zhang et al.

Summary: The optical Bloch oscillation (OBO) is an important optical-quantum analogy effect for manipulating light fields. The study of OBO in reconfigurable platforms is still an open topic. In this study, OBO was theoretically established and experimentally demonstrated in an electromagnetically induced photonic lattice. The induced reconfigurable lattice with a transverse gradient provides a new stage for guiding light in periodic environments.

Superconductivity in the Z2 kagome metal KV3Sb5

Brenden R. Ortiz et al.

Summary: This study reports the observation of bulk superconductivity in single crystals of the two-dimensional kagome metal KV3Sb5, with further characterization of the normal state as a Z(2) topological metal using density functional theory (DFT) calculations. The presence of superconductivity in the AV(3)Sb(5) (A: K, Rb, Cs) family of compounds suggests a common feature across these materials, establishing them as a rich arena for studying the interplay between bulk superconductivity, topological surface states, and likely electronic density wave order in an exfoliable kagome lattice.

Talbot effect of an electromagnetically induced square photonic lattice assisted by a spatial light modulator

Shaohuan Ning et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates the Talbot effect in an electromagnetically induced square photonic lattice formed under the electromagnetically induced transparency (EIT) condition in a three-level Rb-85 atomic configuration. Two-dimensional lattice patterns are generated by diffraction of a Gaussian probe field through a vapor cell, where the refractive index is modulated by a coupling field with a two-dimensional periodic intensity distribution. Experimental observations match theoretical predictions, providing a new approach for creating desired photonic lattices and expanding studies of the electromagnetically induced Talbot effect to two-dimensional space.

Tunable optical vortex array in a two-dimensiona electromagnetically induced atomic lattice

Jinpeng Yuan et al.

Summary: This study implemented an optical vortex array (OVA) with tunable intensity and spatial distribution all-optically in a two-dimensional electromagnetically induced atomic lattice (EIL). The square lattice was constructed by two orthogonal standing-wave fields in Rb-85 vapor, resulting in periodically modulated susceptibility and observed an OVA with dark-hollow intensity distribution based on 2D EIL in the experiment.

Singular flat bands

Jun-Won Rhim et al.

Summary: Recent progress in studying flat band systems has focused on the fundamental physics of the singularity of the flat band's Bloch wave functions. Flat bands are classified into singular and non-singular categories based on the presence or absence of singularity in their Bloch wave functions, generated by band crossing. Singular flat bands exhibit non-contractible loop states and robust boundary modes with nontrivial real-space topology.
