Filling in pattern designs for incomplete pairwise comparison matrices: (Quasi-)regular graphs with minimal diameter *

Zsombor Szadoczki et al.

Summary: Pairwise comparisons are crucial in preference modelling and quantification, especially in the case of incomplete data. This paper focuses on decision problems where the set of pairwise comparisons can be chosen before the decision making process, and provides recommendations for filling incomplete pairwise comparison matrices based on graph representation. Regular and quasi-regular graphs with minimal diameter are proposed, with an emphasis on the importance of the diameter in minimizing errors caused by intermediate comparisons. Extensive numerical tests show that the recommended graphs lead to better weight vectors compared to other graphs with the same number of edges, highlighting the significance of both regularity and small diameter properties.

A two-stage ranking method to minimize ordinal violation for pairwise comparisons

Haomin Wang et al.

Summary: Pairwise comparison is a powerful tool in decision making, but exact ratios for decision makers are difficult to provide due to knowledge limitations. A two-stage ranking method is proposed in this study to minimize ordinal violation, which proved effective in experiments involving numerical examples and real-world applications.
