Key factors predicting the in-hospital mortality of patients with severe cutaneous adverse reactions in Thailand

Clinical Characteristics, Disease Course, and Outcomes of Patients With Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis in the US

Summary: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare and severe cutaneous adverse reaction associated with systemic complications. This retrospective case series of 340 patients in the US, the largest study cohort to date, suggests that AGEP onset is acute and usually triggered by recent exposure to antimicrobial drugs, and may be associated with liver or kidney complications in a minority of patients. Discontinuation of the triggering treatment may lead to improvement or resolution.

Summary: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) and drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DiHS) represent the same spectrum of a drug reaction. A comparison between the diagnostic criteria for DRESS and DiHS showed that the Japanese criteria had reduced sensitivity in diagnosing atypical DiHS, leading to misdiagnosis of a portion of severe DRESS cases as atypical DiHS.
