Clinical Characteristics, Disease Course, and Outcomes of Patients With Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis in the US

Andrew Creadore et al.

Summary: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare and severe cutaneous adverse reaction associated with systemic complications. This retrospective case series of 340 patients in the US, the largest study cohort to date, suggests that AGEP onset is acute and usually triggered by recent exposure to antimicrobial drugs, and may be associated with liver or kidney complications in a minority of patients. Discontinuation of the triggering treatment may lead to improvement or resolution.

Drug Triggers and Clinic of Acute Generalized Exanthematous Pustulosis (AGEP): A Literature Case Series of 297 Patients

Enriqueta Vallejo-Yaguee et al.

Summary: Acute generalized exanthematous pustulosis (AGEP) is a rare skin reaction commonly caused by drugs. Antibiotics are the most common suspected cause, with an average onset time of 9.1 days. Some patients may experience fever and systemic involvement, and most patients receive pharmacological treatment.

RegiSCAR DRESS (Drug Reaction with Eosinophilia and Systemic Symptoms) Validation Scoring System and Japanese Consensus Group Criteria for Atypical Drug-Induced Hypersensitivity Syndrome (DiHS): A Comparative Analysis

Sarita Sasidharanpillai et al.

Summary: Drug reaction with eosinophilia and systemic symptoms (DRESS) and drug-induced hypersensitivity syndrome (DiHS) represent the same spectrum of a drug reaction. A comparison between the diagnostic criteria for DRESS and DiHS showed that the Japanese criteria had reduced sensitivity in diagnosing atypical DiHS, leading to misdiagnosis of a portion of severe DRESS cases as atypical DiHS.

The Correlation of Neutrophil-Lymphocyte Ratio and Eosinophil Count with SCORTEN in SJS/TEN

Pratiwi Prasetya Primisawitri et al.

Summary: The neutrophil and lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and eosinophils count (EC) can serve as prognostic markers of disease severity in patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome (SJS) and toxic epidermal necrolysis (TEN), as they are correlated with the severity of the condition.

Summary: Some treatments for SJS/TEN demonstrate better performance, such as cyclosporine and the combination of immunoglobulins with corticosteroids. However, there is still insufficient evidence to recommend widespread use in all patients.

Neutrophil : lymphocyte ratio is associated with disease severity and mortality in patients with Stevens-Johnson syndrome/toxic epidermal necrolysis

Summary: The study found that among the inflammatory biomarkers studied, NLR and CAR could partially reflect the severity and inflammatory status in patients with SJS/TEN. NLR was also identified as a predictor of death.
