Summary: The effects of pyrolysis temperature and online derivatisation on the characterisation of artificially light aged lacquer polymers were studied using Py-GC-MS. The results showed that stepwise increasing the pyrolysis temperature helped to differentiate between primary pyrolysis reactions and the formation of secondary products, which allowed for the reconstruction of the polymeric structure of the lacquers.

Summary: In this study, nanocomposite films reinforced with different concentrations of tetragonal titanium dioxide nanoparticles were fabricated using pure polypyrrole as the host material. The films were characterized to investigate their structural, optical, morphological, electrical, and dielectric properties. Results showed that the addition of titanium dioxide nanoparticles enhanced the amorphous regions of the polypyrrole structure and increased the absorbance of the films. The energy gap of the films decreased as the concentration of titanium dioxide nanoparticles increased. The inclusion of titanium dioxide nanoparticles also improved the ionic conductivity and dielectric permittivity of the nanocomposite films. These findings suggest that these nanocomposites have potential applications in flexible capacitors, battery separators, and high-density energy storage systems.

Summary: In this study, a ternary nanocomposite comprised of reduced graphene oxide (rGO), manganese oxide nanorods (MnO2), and poly (o-phenylenediamine) (PoPDA) was synthesized and characterized. Films were made using this nanocomposite and the dielectric properties were studied as a function of frequency. The results showed that the real and imaginary permittivity decreased with increasing frequency, while the electrical conductivity increased. The study also observed an increase in electrical conductivity with an increase in the ratio of the nanocomposite and an increase in frequency.

Summary: A catalytic route is developed to synthesize bio-renewable catechol from softwood-derived lignin-first monomers. The process consists of two steps: O-demethylation of 4-n-propylguaiacol over acidic beta zeolites and gas-phase C-dealkylation of 4-n-propylcatechol providing catechol and propylene over acidic ZSM-5 zeolites. The process shows the potential to shift feedstock from fossil oil to biomass.
