3D-printed microneedle-based potentiometric sensor for pH monitoring in skin interstitial fluid

Marc Parrilla et al.

Summary: Wearable electrochemical sensors driven by continuous monitoring of key biomarkers provide user-friendly capability for diagnostic or therapeutic operations. This study explores the use of 3D-printed hollow microneedle (MN) patches, modified with conductive inks, to develop a potentiometric sensor for pH monitoring. The ability of the 3D-printed MN patches to pierce and be inserted into porcine skin is demonstrated. The MNs are filled with conductive inks to create a set of microelectrodes, and the working and reference electrodes are properly modified for a highly stable potentiometric cell. Characterization and evaluation of the sensor's performance are conducted in vitro and on-body, showing its versatility and affordability for monitoring physiological parameters.

An alternative pH sensor: graphene oxide-based electrochemical sensor

Shova Neupane et al.

Summary: Graphene oxide electrodes prepared using a modified Hummer's method showed a potentiometric gradient of 51 mV/pH and exhibited similar response to glass electrodes in mono- and di-protic acid potentiometric titration experiments. The graphene oxide electrodes are cost-effective and reliable, making them more convenient for daily use compared to traditional glass electrodes.

Printed pH Sensors for Textile-Based Wearables: A Conceptual and Experimental Study on Materials, Deposition Technology, and Sensing Principles

Manoj Jose et al.

Summary: This study investigates printed wearable pH sensors using organic and polymeric materials, printing technology, and sensing principles. Three different sensors were selected, including a conductometric sensor, a voltametric sensor, and a potentiometric sensor, and printed on flexible foils for testing. Among them, a potentiometric PANI sensor showed a sensitivity of 45 mV pH(-1) with linear responses and repeatable characteristics when tested for a buffer solution with pH ranging from 4 to 9.5.

SPLIT-RING-SHAPED BIODEGRADABLE pH SENSOR FOR WIRELESS AND BATTERY-FREE MONITORING OF AGRICULTURAL FIELDS

Katsutoshi Hori et al.

Summary: This paper presents a pH sensor for soil monitoring made of fully biodegradable materials. The sensor consists of a magnesium electromagnetic antenna and a hydroxyapatite protection layer, functioning as an electromagnetic split-ring resonator that reflects specific frequency electromagnetic waves. Wireless pH detection of soil is demonstrated, aiming to achieve an environmentally friendly monitoring sensor that does not require collection after installation.
