Temperature and Tumor Microenvironment Dual Responsive Mesoporous Magnetic Nanospheres for Magnetothermal Effect-Induced Cancer Theranostics

Zhiyi Wang et al.

Summary: The development of smart drug delivery systems based on engineered nanomaterials is crucial for clinical applications. This study introduces a stimulus-responsive system of mesoporous nanospheres with a magnetothermal effect, which enables image-guided controllable targeted drug delivery independent of tumor depth. Aggregation-induced emission luminogen-based fluorescence imaging and magnetic resonance imaging were used to visualize the process in real time. Additionally, the degraded nanocarriers exhibited high catalytic activity and elevated hydroxyl radicals in cancer cells for chemodynamic therapy.

Dual-source powered nanomotor with integrated functions for cancer photo-theranostics

Shuqin Chen et al.

Summary: The authors propose a dual-source powered Janus nanomotor that integrates multiple photo-theranostic functions. This nanomotor utilizes upconversion nanoparticles (UCNPs) to convert O2 into reactive oxygen species for tumor treatment and captures ratiometric SERS signal to quantitatively detect the tumor marker H2O2. In vivo experiments demonstrate the potential of this nanomotor for superficial cancer treatment.

Magneto-Electrically Enhanced Intracellular Catalysis of FePt-FeC Heterostructures for Chemodynamic Therapy

Huilin Zhang et al.

Summary: An efficient intracellular catalysis method utilizing magneto-electronic approach is developed to induce eddy currents of FePt-FeC heterostructures in mild alternating magnetic fields. The induced catalytic reaction in the heterostructures significantly reduces the concentration of a crucial coenzyme in cancer cells under alternating magnetic stimulation, leading to the generation of senescent cancer cells for further treatment. This approach may enable precise catalytic tumor treatment by promoting intracellular catalytic reactions in tumors.

Dual-responsive biohybrid neutrobots for active target delivery

Hongyue Zhang et al.

Summary: Neutrophil-based microrobots, constructed by phagocytosis of drug-loaded magnetic nanogels enveloped in Escherichia coli membrane, exhibit controllable intravascular movement and can autonomously aggregate in the brain by positive chemotactic motion along the gradient of inflammatory factors. These dual-responsive neutrobots show promise for targeted drug delivery to inhibit tumor cell proliferation compared to traditional drug injection, leveraging the biological characteristics of natural neutrophils that artificial microrobots cannot replicate.

Renal Clearable Ultrasmall Single-Crystal Fe Nanoparticles for Highly Selective and Effective Ferroptosis Therapy and Immunotherapy

Huan Liang et al.

Summary: This study synthesized ultrasmall single-crystal Fe nanoparticles that showed high activity in inducing tumor cell ferroptosis and immunogenetic cell death in the tumor microenvironment at a low concentration. These nanoparticles effectively suppressed tumor growth, promoted dendritic cell maturation, and triggered T cell response in animal models, and when combined with immune checkpoint blockade therapy, they greatly enhanced the immune response and developed strong immune memory. Furthermore, the nanoparticles were quickly excreted in the kidneys without side effects in normal tissues.
