Accurate Single-Molecule Kinetic Isotope Effects

Yilin Guo et al.

Summary: An accurate single-molecule kinetic isotope effect (sm-KIE) has been used to overcome the limitations of conventional ensemble KIE and provide a more accurate and sensitive determination method. This method has demonstrated high detection sensitivity and accuracy in observing the TS structures and multidimensional regulation of Claissen rearrangement.

Imaging of isotope diffusion using atomic-scale vibrational spectroscopy

Ryosuke Senga et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the unambiguous isotopic imaging of C-12 carbon atoms in C-13 graphene and the monitoring of their self-diffusion through atomic-level vibrational spectroscopy. The results confirm the high mobility of carbon atoms during growth and annealing via self-diffusion. This imaging technique provides a fundamental methodology for nanoisotope engineering and monitoring.

Theoretical treatment of single-molecule scanning Raman picoscopy in strongly inhomogeneous near fields

Yao Zhang et al.

Summary: A general treatment has been introduced to simulate single-molecule TERS spectra and their vibrational fingerprints maps. The calculation separately considers the polarization properties of the single molecule and the optical enhancing nanoresonator, which are then combined to obtain the total Raman cross section under a strongly inhomogeneous field. The study reveals that Raman spectra are highly sensitive to the spatial distribution of local fields and the orientation of the molecules.

On-Surface Synthesis and Molecular Engineering of Carbon-Based Nanoarchitectures

Linfei Li et al.

Summary: Covalent coupling of adsorbed precursor molecules on metal surfaces for on-surface synthesis is a promising strategy for designing and fabricating novel organic nanoarchitectures with unique properties and potential applications. Bond cleavage, linkage, and rearrangement driven by surface chemistry through thermal activation, light irradiation, and tip manipulation are critical in various on-surface synthetic processes. Research in this field has recently advanced, paving the way for the molecular engineering of carbon-based nanoarchitectures.

Chemical Identification and Bond Control of π-Skeletons in a Coupling Reaction

Chi Zhang et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates a methodology to visualize and identify the generated pi-skeletons at the single-chemical-bond level on the surface, enabling precise bond control. Electronic features and vibrational modes of the carbon skeletons are resolved in real space using a combination of STM/STS and TERS techniques, crucial for generating low-dimensional carbon nanostructures with atomic precision.

On-surface cyclodehydrogenation reaction pathway determined by selective molecular deuterations

Chuanxu Ma et al.

Summary: This study investigates the cyclodehydrogenation reaction mechanism in the on-surface synthesis of graphene nanoribbons using isotopic labeling. A reaction pathway involving conrotatory electrocyclization and a [1,9]-sigmatropic D shift, followed by H/D eliminations, is identified and substantiated by experiments and simulations. The research not only helps clarify the reaction process in GNR synthesis, but also presents a rational strategy for designing precise hydrogen/deuterium isotope labeling patterns in on-surface reactions.
