Cu/SaBox-Catalyzed Photoinduced Coupling of Acylsilanes with Alkynes

Long Zheng et al.

Summary: In this study, the coupling of alkynes with Fischer-type copper carbene species bearing an alpha-siloxyl group is reported. The copper carbene species can be in situ generated from acylsilanes under photoirradiation and redox-neutral conditions. The side-arm modified bisoxazoline (SaBox) ligands play a crucial role in this coupling reaction, providing the corresponding alkynyl alcohol in high yields with remarkable heterocycle tolerance and broad substrate scope.

Ti-Catalyzed Diastereoselective Cyclopropanation of Carboxylic Derivatives with Terminal Olefins

Jiabin Ni et al.

Summary: Cyclopropanols and cyclopropylamines are important structural motifs in medicinal chemistry and exhibit diverse reactivities in organic synthesis. However, the development of a general protocol for obtaining these cyclopropyl derivatives from stable and readily available starting materials remains a challenging task due to the high ring strain energy. In this study, a Ti-based catalyst was found to effectively promote the diastereoselective syntheses of cyclopropanols and cyclopropylamines from widely accessible carboxylic derivatives and terminal olefins. This method represents the first example of directly converting alkyl carboxylic acids into cyclopropanols and offers broad substrate scope and good functional group compatibility.

Convergent Synthesis of 1,4-DicarbonylZ-Alkenes through Three-Component Coupling of Alkynes,α-Diazo Sulfonium Triflate, and Water

Xuyong Wang et al.

Summary: A general protocol for the synthesis of 1,4-dicarbonyl Z-alkenes from alkynes using alpha-diazosulfonium triflate and water has been reported, showing excellent Z-selectivity and complete regioselectivity. The resulting compounds can be smoothly converted to various heteroaromatic scaffolds. Mechanistic studies suggest the formation of a free carbyne radical intermediate and the crucial role of KH2PO4 in enhancing yield and selectivity, providing a new direction for radical coupling reactions of diazo compounds.

Asymmetric Cyclopropanation with 4-Aryloxy-1-sulfonyl-1,2,3-triazoles: Expanding the Range of Rhodium-Stabilized Donor/ Acceptor Carbenes to Systems with an Oxygen Donor Group

Robert W. Kubiak et al.

Summary: This paper describes a rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective synthesis of 1-phenoxy-cyclopropane-1-carbaldehydes by intermolecular cyclopropanation of terminal alkenes followed by imine hydrolysis. The reaction proceeds via rhodium-stabilized donor/acceptor carbene intermediates, and the study demonstrates compatibility of a heteroatom donor group with enantioselective transformation.

Catalytic Synthesis of Cyclopropenium Cations with Rh-Carbynoids

Hang-Fei Tu et al.

Summary: In this study, a catalytic one-step synthesis of cyclopropenium cations using readily available alkynes and hypervalent iodine reagents as carbyne sources is reported. A novel Rh-carbynoid catalytically generates monovalent cationic carbynes (:C+-R), which are then transferred to alkynes via an oxidative [2+1] cycloaddition, resulting in a new type of ester-substituted CPC. This method allows for regioselective attack of various carbon and heteroatomic nucleophiles, providing a new platform for the synthesis of valuable cyclopropenes that are difficult or impossible to make by current methodologies.

α-Diazo Sulfonium Triflates: Synthesis, Structure, and Application to the Synthesis of 1-(Dialkylamino)-1,2,3-triazoles

Xiangdong Li et al.

Summary: This study describes a one-pot synthesis method for a series of sulfonium salts containing transferable diazomethyl groups, with the structure of these compounds elucidated by X-ray crystallography. Under photochemical conditions, these salts react with N,N-dialkyl hydrazones to afford 1-(dialkylamino)-1,2,3-triazoles via diazomethyl radical addition and intramolecular ring closure. The straightforward transformation of these structures into mesoionic carbene-metal complexes is reported, along with characterization of the donor properties of these new ligands.

Zinc-Catalyzed β-Functionalization of Cyclopropanols via Enolized Homoenolate

Yoshiya Sekiguchi et al.

Summary: A zinc-catalyzed beta-allylation of cyclopropanols with Morita-Baylis-Hillman (MBH) carbonates was reported, maintaining the cyclopropane ring and yielding cyclopropyl-fused alpha-alkylidene-delta-valerolactone derivatives. The mechanism involves zinc homoenolate formation and enolization, followed by alpha-allylation with MBH carbonate leading to cyclopropane ring regeneration and irreversible lactonization, allowing for beta-functionalization with alkylidenemalononitrile as well. This reaction provides a pathway to transform simple cyclopropanols into alpha,beta- or beta,beta-difunctionalized ketones.

Two Copper-Carbenes from One Diazo Compound

Maria Alvarez et al.

Summary: This study reports the detection and isolation of a monosubstituted copper carbene where the ligand has undergone a modification from the initial diazo reagent. Additionally, carbon monoxide was trapped as a product of the decarbonylation process. Experimental data, DFT calculations, and microkinetic models support the proposal that a copper carbene complex undergoes CO loss en route to the formation of another complex.
