Introducing the Catalytic Amination of Silanes via Nitrene Insertion

Anabel M. Rodriguez et al.

Summary: This paper describes the direct functionalization of Si-H bonds using nitrene insertion methodology. It was found that a copper(I) complex with a trispyrazolylborate ligand can catalyze the transfer of a nitrene group from PhI=NTs to the Si-H bond of silanes, disilanes, and siloxanes, leading to the exclusive formation of Si-NH moieties. The process is also tolerant of other functionalities in the substrate, such as multiple C-H bonds and alkynyl and vinyl moieties directly bonded to the silicon center. Density functional theory calculations provide a mechanistic interpretation involving Si-H homolytic cleavage and subsequent rebound to the Si-centered radical.

Nickel(0)-catalyzed divergent reactions of silacyclobutanes with internal alkynes

Xi-Chao Wang et al.

Summary: Transition metal-catalyzed reactions of silacyclobutanes with a variety of pi units have become a straightforward and efficient approach to access structurally diverse organosilicon compounds. However, the reaction of silacyclobutanes with alkynes still faces limitations, such as challenging internal alkynes, expensive catalysts, and lack of control over chemodivergence. In this study, a nickel-catalytic system is introduced, which overcomes these limitations and provides complementary substrate scope, ligand-controlled chemodivergence, and low cost. Ligand steric effects play a crucial role in determining the selectivities of different reaction pathways.
