Efficient Synthesis of Orphaned Cyclopropanes Using Sulfones as Carbene Equivalents

John Douglas Johnson et al.

Summary: In this study, a new platform for transferring 1,1-dialkylcarbene units to olefins using carbometalation reactions was introduced. By reacting dialkyl sulfones with styrenes and arylbutadienes, 1,1-dialkylcyclopropanes were synthesized successfully. The potential of this method was showcased through various examples.

Carbene reactivity from alkyl and aryl aldehydes

Lumin Zhang et al.

Summary: Carbenes, highly reactive intermediates, are successfully generated from common aldehydes via stable alpha-acyloxy halide intermediates, enabling diverse and valuable chemistry reactions. This strategy utilizes zinc carbenoids and earth-abundant metal salts as catalysts to achieve safe and selective carbene additions to sigma and pi bonds.

Asymmetric radical cyclopropanation of dehydroaminocarboxylates: Stereoselective synthesis of cyclopropyl a-amino acids

Wan-Chen Cindy Lee et al.

Summary: A catalytic radical process for asymmetric cyclopropanation using Co(II)-based metalloradical catalysis has been developed, enabling the stereoselective synthesis of chiral cyclopropyl alpha-amino acid derivatives with high yields, excellent enantioselectivities, and (Z)-diastereoselectivity. Computational and experimental studies support a stepwise radical mechanism for the reaction, showcasing potential applications in the synthesis of dipeptides.
