A Zn-based metal-organic framework for the irreversible determination of trace biomarkers of styrene and ethylbenzene in urine

Zhenzhong Cong et al.

Summary: A new sensor Zn-PBA was designed and synthesized in this paper, which can detect PGA levels in normal human urine with high selectivity and sensitivity, rapid response time (<210 s), low limit of detection (LOD = 1.96 x 10(-6) M), etc. The irreversible sensing of PGA indicates that PGA caused the structural collapse of Zn-PBA, providing a specific sensor for evaluating EB/S intake by the human body.

Guest-adaptive molecular sensing in a dynamic 3D covalent organic framework

Lei Wei et al.

Summary: The development of porous solids that can rapidly and selectively detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) is of significant importance in sensor design. In this study, a dynamic 3D covalent organic framework (dynaCOF) was constructed, which can undergo structural transitions upon the adsorption of different gases and vapours. The framework can detect and differentiate organic vapours based on their polarity and sizes/shapes, providing a potential way for multiplex fluorescence sensing of various VOCs.

Polycrystalline Covalent Organic Framework Films Act as Adsorbents, Not Membranes

Julie L. Fenton et al.

Summary: Covalent organic framework (COF) membranes function as adsorbents rather than size-sieving membranes. Adsorption of various dyes by COFs shows high capacity and diverse affinities, driven by variable entropic gains. Further examination of the COF membrane literature is necessary, as separations based on differential transport through 2D COF pores remain an important yet unrealized frontier.
