Surface Properties of Graffiti Coatings on Sensitive Surfaces Concerning Their Removal with Formulations Based on the Amino-Acid-Type Surfactants

Marcin Bartman et al.

Summary: Water-in-oil nanoemulsions stabilized with amino acid surfactants are effective detergents for removing graffiti coatings from sensitive surfaces. The nanostructured fluids, consisting of non-toxic and eco-friendly components, were obtained using high-pressure homogenization. By optimizing the formulation, the most effective detergent was determined. The removal of graffiti depends more on the energetic properties and microstructure of the paint coatings than on the properties of the substrates.

Graffiti coating eco-remover developed for sensitive surfaces by using an optimized high-pressure homogenization process

Marcin Bartman et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the selective and controlled removal of graffiti coatings from sensitive surfaces using innovative eco-removers in the form of brush-on, wipe-off detergents. Water-in-oil nanoemulsions were fabricated through a high-pressure homogenization process and optimized for their efficient removal of graffiti coatings on plastics, ceramics, and painted metal surfaces. The research also evaluates the interaction between the eco-remover and graffiti coatings, providing insights into the mechanism of removal. The developed nanoemulsion systems offer a safe and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional graffiti coating removers.

Nanostructured fluids for polymeric coatings removal: Surfactants affect the polymer glass transition temperature

Michele Baglioni et al.

Summary: The study found that nonionic surfactants were more effective in polymer swelling compared to zwitterionic/ionic surfactants. Methyoxy pentadecaoxyethylene dodecanoate was identified as the most effective surfactant, with a direct correlation between its effect on the polymers' glass transition temperature and cleaning capacity. This finding is key to achieving selective, effective, and complete removal of polymer coatings.

Effects of cleaning process using toluene and acetone on water-wet-quartz/CO2 and oil-wet-quartz/CO2 wettability

Ahmed Al-Yaseri et al.

Summary: The study revealed that cleaning agents can alter the wettability of rocks, with toluene recommended for water-wet rock and acetone for oil-wet rock. Heptane is suitable for modifying wettability of oil-wet cores. Air plasma is the only effective method for removing surface contamination and organic carbon from quartz substrates to avoid incorrect contact angle measurements.

Influence of surface roughness frequencies and roughness parameters on lubricant wettability transitions in micro-nano scale hierarchical surfaces

Vimal Edachery et al.

Summary: The study discusses the influence of surface roughness frequencies and parameters on mixed wetting and its transitions. It was found that while all roughness frequencies contribute to net roughness parameters, not all of them affect wettability transitions. Parameters such as Rz and LSm were identified as predictors for spatial roughness frequencies that dictate transitions to different wettings states.

Deterioration of graffiti spray paints applied on granite after a decade of natural environment

J. S. Pozo-Antonio et al.

Summary: Graffiti spray paints play an important role in contemporary mural paintings in public spaces, but the deterioration of these outdoor artworks has not been well-characterized. This study evaluated and characterized the physical and chemical changes of different graffiti spray paints on granite stones, finding that the damage is related to the texture and particle size of the granite substrate, while the chemical changes are influenced by the color and composition of the paints.

Wettability of Metal Surfaces Affected by Paint Layer Covering

Stanislaw Pogorzelski et al.

Summary: The aim of this study was to quantify the surface wettability of metallic surfaces covered with sprayed paints. The results showed that the treated surfaces exhibited hydrophobic water/solid interactions and the surface roughness and heterogeneity affected the wettability. The findings are important for surface-mediated process studies such as lubrication, liquid coating, and thermoflow.

Effect of hydrophile-lipophile balance of the linker in Gal/GalNAc ligands on high-affinity binding of galactosylated liposomes by the asialoglycoprotein receptor

Hua Nie et al.

Summary: In this study, the effect of hydrophile-lipophile balance (HLB) on the affinity of Gal/GalNAc ligands towards ASGPRs was explored. Ligands with high HLB values showed higher affinity. Molecular dynamics simulations revealed that ligands with more hydrophilic linkers had larger solvent-accessible surface areas, reducing steric hindrance for ASGPR recognition.

A review on the synthesis of bio-based surfactants using green chemistry principles

Shea Stubbs et al.

Summary: Bio-based surfactants, particularly those with carbohydrate head groups like alkyl polyglucosides (APGs) and sucrose esters (SEs), are considered safer, more affordable, and environmentally friendly alternatives to conventional surfactants. The use of green chemistry principles can further support the adoption of these bio-based surfactants in personal care products, aligning with global regulations for sustainability and safety. Industry efforts to implement and improve green chemistry principles at a commercial level are crucial in promoting the use of these novel surfactants.

Approaches to design a surface with tunable wettability: a review on surface properties

C. G. Jothi Prakash et al.

Summary: This article explores the wide application prospects of surface wettability in energy harvesting, conversion, and emission control technology, focusing on the recent interest in altering surface wettability through nanomaterial fabrication and coating. Surface properties such as roughness, surface energy, porosity, capillarity, and structure play a major role in changing the wettability of liquids over surfaces, with surface chemistry being a key factor in inducing wettability alteration. Surface pre- and post-treatments like laser, ozone plasma, and UV irradiation contribute to changes in surface energy, leading to superhydrophilicity and superhydrophobicity.
