Coarsening, condensates, and extremes in aggregation-fragmentation models

Chandrashekar Iyer et al.

Summary: In this study, extreme value statistics were used to investigate the dynamics of coarsening in aggregation-fragmentation models that form condensates in the steady state. The dynamics are mainly governed by the formation of local condensates on a coarsening length scale, which increases with time in both zero range process and conserved mass aggregation model. The distribution of local condensate mass exhibits scaling, indicating unusually large fluctuations with mean and standard deviation proportional to the coarsening length. Interestingly, the system's state during coarsening is determined not by the steady state, but by a preasymptotic state with strong fluctuations in condensate mass.

Condensation and Extremes for a Fluctuating Number of Independent Random Variables

Claude Godreche

Summary: This paper addresses the question of condensation and extremes for three classes of intimately related stochastic processes by providing a stripped-down account of the subject in the language of sums of independent random variables. The study explores new insights on extreme value statistics of these three classes of processes, shedding light on the mechanism of condensation and the quantitative analysis of fluctuations of the condensate. Furthermore, the paper highlights the importance of random allocation models and zero-range processes in serving as a backdrop for the study of tied-down and free renewal processes.

Coexistence of coarsening and mean field relaxation in the long-range Ising chain

Federico Corberi et al.

Summary: The kinetics of a one-dimensional Ising model after a low temperature quench with long range interactions decaying as r(-a) was studied. Different behaviors were observed based on the strength of long range interactions, with the system exhibiting characteristics with certain probabilities under different parameters. The underlying dynamical scaling symmetry was discussed, showing a single characteristic time similar to N-alpha.
