Muscle Architecture and Maturation Influence Sprint and Jump Ability in Young Boys: A Multistudy Approach

Summary: This series of experiments examined the influence of muscle architecture on sprint and jump performance in young boys. The results showed that muscle architecture is larger in more mature boys compared to their less mature peers. Pearson's correlation analyses revealed a small to moderate correlation between muscle architecture and sprint and jump performance. The experiments also found that boys experiencing or having experienced peak height velocity (PHV) make the largest increases in muscle architecture and sprinting and jumping performance over a period of 18 months.

Relative Age Effects in Male Cricket: A Personal Assets Approach to Explain Immediate, Short-Term, and Long-Term Developmental Outcomes

Summary: This study examines the effects of relative age on the development of male cricket players using the Personal Assets Framework (PAF). The results show that older players are overrepresented in youth levels, but there are no differences in senior levels. Younger players are more likely to transition from youth to senior levels. In the long term, older batters are selected for more games, while younger bowlers are also selected for more games.
