Co@ZIF-8/TiO2 heterojunction for green hydrogen generation

Mahmoud R. Saleh et al.

Summary: A wet-incipient impregnation method was used to synthesize hierarchical porous bimetallic (Co, Zn)-zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8)/TiO2 for efficient photocatalytic water splitting. Co@ZIF-8/TiO2 exhibited significantly higher photocatalytic efficiency than TiO2, with a hydrogen generation rate of 13 mmol·h(-1)·g(-1) and a 151-fold increase in catalytic performance. The hierarchical porous structure of Co@ZIF-8 facilitated charge transfer and provided efficient transport channels. This study demonstrates the potential of hierarchical porous metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) as support and promoter in photocatalytic applications of TiO2.

Effect of Titanium Dioxide Support for Cobalt Nanoparticle Catalysts for Hydrogen Generation from Sodium Borohydride Hydrolysis

Cigdem Tuc Altaf et al.

Summary: This study reveals the influence of structural differences in titanium dioxide (TiO2) as supporting materials for cobalt (Co) nanoparticles in aqueous and alkaline sodium borohydride (NaBH4) hydrolysis. The activation energies for TiO2/Co catalysts in aqueous and alkaline solutions were calculated, and the hydrogen generation rate (HGR) was determined. The results showed that the structural differences in TiO2 affected the catalytic performance of Co nanoparticles, and the TiO2/Co catalysts had higher HGR in the aqueous-alkaline solution.

Review on Magnesium Hydride and Sodium Borohydride Hydrolysis for Hydrogen Production

Nuraini Ruslan et al.

Summary: Metal hydrides such as MgH2 and NaBH4 have high potential for solid-state hydrogen storage. However, a dehydrogenation process is required prior to hydrogen utilization. The hydrolysis method is a possible way to extract or generate hydrogen, but issues like passivation layer, high cost and sluggish self-hydrolysis can be overcome with the help of catalysts. Studies have shown that adding catalysts like chloride, oxide, fluoride, platinum, ruthenium, cobalt, and nickel can significantly enhance the amount of hydrogen released during the hydrolysis of MgH2 and NaBH4.
