Estimation of P-T entrapment conditions of a subduction fluid using elastic thermobarometry: A case study from Cabo Ortegal Complex, Spain

Tamas Spranitz et al.

Summary: Fluid and mineral inclusions in metamorphic rocks play a crucial role in understanding fluid-involved processes in subduction zones. This study focuses on ultramafic granulite from the Cabo Ortegal Complex in Spain, using quartz-in-garnet and zircon-in-garnet Raman spectroscopy to determine the entrapment conditions of mineral and fluid inclusions. The findings confirm the reliability of elastic thermobarometry on mineral inclusions in determining the entrapment P-T conditions. Rating: 8 out of 10.

High CO2 content in magmas of the explosive andesitic Enco eruption of Mocho-Choshuenco volcano (Chile)

Jean-Guillaume Feignon et al.

Summary: Mocho-Choshuenco volcano is one of the most hazardous volcanoes in the southern volcanic zone of Chile, but it is still relatively little studied. A study of the 1600-year-old Enco eruption revealed that it was triggered by the mixing of a CO2-rich basaltic magma with a shallower andesitic magma.

Abiotic passive nitrogen and methane enrichment during exhumation of subducted rocks: Primary multiphase fluid inclusions in high-pressure rocks from the Cabo Ortegal Complex, NW Spain

Tamas Spranitz et al.

Summary: The primary multiphase fluid inclusions (MFI) in the Cabo Ortegal Complex (COC) in NW Spain were found to be formed under high-pressure metamorphic conditions. The mineral assemblage of MFI consists mainly of carbonates and silicates, with proportions of nitrogen, methane and carbon dioxide. Reactions between the MFI and the host minerals resulted in carbonation and hydration reactions. This study has important implications for global nitrogen and carbon cycling, as well as the supply of nitrogen and methane in subsurface-surface environments.

A machine learning classification methodology for Raman Hyperspectral imagery based on auto-encoders

Jonne J. Goedhart et al.

Summary: Raman spectroscopy is a sensitive and non-destructive technique for characterizing material composition. However, its signal analysis is complex, especially when combined with spatial mapping to create a three-dimensional dataset. This project aims to improve signal unmixing performance using artificial intelligence, and explores various unsupervised methods to find the most suitable approach for microscopic Raman hyperspectral imagery data sets.

Raman spectral behavior of N2, CO2, and CH4 in N2-CO2-CH4 gas mixtures from 22°C to 200°C and 10 to 500 bars, with application to other gas mixtures

D. Matthew Sublett Jr et al.

Summary: The Raman spectral behavior of N-2, CO2, and CH4 in ternary N-2-CO2-CH4 mixtures was studied, with N-2 showing lower wavenumbers in all mixtures, while CO2 and CH4 exhibited different peak shifts. The relationships between peak positions and mole fractions were found to be more complex for CH4 compared with N-2 and CO2. Additionally, the study extended the relationship between the peak position of N-2 and pressure in ternary N-2-bearing systems to assess similarities in Raman spectral behavior.

Thermodynamic analysis of HP-UHP fluid inclusions: The solute load and chemistry of metamorphic fluids

A. Maffeis et al.

Summary: When studying the migration of subduction fluids within rocks, it is essential to consider the complex post-entrapment effects, such as solvent loss, chemical reactions, and water diffusion. Results from fluid inclusion analysis and thermodynamic modeling can qualitatively describe and explain the chemical characteristics of UHP fluid inclusions.
