Restoration of Aberrant Shape of Caudate Subregions Associated with Cognitive Function Improvement in Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: Mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) is an important but often overlooked public health concern. In this study, a vertex-wise shape analysis was performed to examine the abnormal patterns of caudate subregions in relation to cognitive impairment in mTBI patients. The findings suggest that the restoration of abnormal shape atrophy in the right dorsal medial caudate is crucial for cognitive function improvement in patients with mTBI.

Altered Structural and Functional Connectivity of Salience Network in Patients with Classic Trigeminal Neuralgia

Hui Xu et al.

Summary: This study identified abnormalities in resting state functional connectivity of large-scale networks and white matter connectivity in CTN patients. Abnormalities in the salience network were negatively correlated with pain severity, and structural disintegration was observed in the white matter tract between aIns and ACC. These findings suggest a potential alternative target for clinical interventions to alleviate CTN pain.

Neuroprotection of Cannabidiol, Its Synthetic Derivatives and Combination Preparations against Microglia-Mediated Neuroinflammation in Neurological Disorders

Muhammad Yousaf et al.

Summary: The lack of effective treatment for neurological disorders has prompted researchers to explore new therapeutic strategies. Neuroinflammation, caused by activated microglia, is emerging as an important target for treating neurological dysfunction. Cannabidiol (CBD), derived from Cannabis sativa L., has shown promising therapeutic effects for various neurological disorders. This review summarizes the anti-neuroinflammatory activities of CBD and its derivatives, focusing on their molecular mechanisms of action. The studies shed light on the development of CBD as a novel therapeutic option for neurological disorders where neuroinflammation plays a role.

Fatty acid amide hydrolase is lower in young cannabis users

Maya R. Jacobson et al.

Summary: Lower levels of FAAH enzyme were found in the brains of adult cannabis users during early abstinence, with higher cannabis use throughout the past year correlating with decreased [C-11]CURB binding. The study also detected lower [C-11]CURB binding in a younger cohort with less cumulative cannabis exposure, confirming and extending previous findings.

Preliminary in vivo evidence of lower hippocampal synaptic density in cannabis use disorder

Deepak Cyril D'Souza et al.

Summary: Cannabis is a commonly used psychoactive drug, with rates of misuse increasing. Research on the effects of cannabis on the brain has shown microstructural changes in animal studies, but similar alterations in human cannabis users have not yet been demonstrated. This study provides in vivo evidence of lower hippocampal synaptic density in cannabis use disorder, suggesting the need for further research on the impact of cannabis misuse on the brain.

Brain imaging of cannabinoid type I (CB1) receptors in women with cannabis use disorder and male and female healthy controls

Tory R. Spindle et al.

Summary: The study found that chronic cannabis use appears to lead to downregulation of CB1 receptors in women, similar to what has been observed in men previously. Female healthy controls had significantly higher CB1 receptor availability in brain regions compared to males. Gender differences play an important role in the effects of cannabis, progression to cannabis use disorder, and severity of withdrawal symptoms.
