Materials informatics is at a turning point, transitioning from its early stages to its golden age. The ability to manipulate synthesis, properties, and characterization data is crucial for material design and understanding. This article discusses the ultimate goal of materials informatics and potential key components.
Materials informatics is reaching the transition pointand is evolvingfrom its early stages of adoption and development and moving towardits golden age. Here, the transformation of the early stage of materialsinformatics toward the next level of materials informatics is explored.In particular, it has become crucial to be able to manipulate materialssynthesis data, materials properties data, and materials characterizationdata. Through the use of ontology, material design and understandingcan be carried out simultaneously in a whitebox manner. Here, a perspectiveon the ultimate goal of materials informatics along with potentialkey components is discussed.
