Is the polarity of the Co3O4(111) surface compensated by electron transfer from bulk donor defects?

Martin Gurrath et al.

Summary: Experimental studies have shown that the Co3O4(111) surface exists as an unreconstructed (1 x 1) truncated bulk termination. Polarity compensation of this polar surface occurs through a transfer of electrons, which makes the surface metallic. However, this mechanism alone cannot explain the observed reactivity. Therefore, an additional compensation mechanism, involving the transfer of electrons from bulk donor defects to the surface, is proposed.

Surface Stability Analysis with H Adsorption Affected the Magnetic Fluctuation of Brownmillerite SrCoO2.5 Based on the Electron Counting Model by Layers

Yupu Wang et al.

Summary: Strontium cobalt oxides have attracted significant attention for their potential applications in electronic, magnetic, and energy devices. In this study, we used density functional theory to compute the phase diagram and surface formation energy of thin films. We proposed a new approach to identify the most stable surface configurations and discovered the coupling mechanism between surface states and magnetism. Our findings provide insights into the interplay between surface states and bulk magnetism in transition-metal oxides.

Double perovskite anti-supported rare earth oxide catalyst CeO2/La2CoFeO6 for efficient ventilation air methane combustion

Xiaojiao Gao et al.

Summary: Ventilation air methane is a valuable resource with a massive reserve, but most of it is discharged into the air. The catalytic performance of CeO2/La2CoFeO6 is better than other samples, showing lower light-off temperature and complete combustion temperature.

Effect of elemental doping on the catalytic activity of ABO3 perovskite oxides during low-pressure gas nitriding

Chengsong Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, elemental doping was applied to optimize the catalytic activity of LaFeO3 oxide during low-pressure gas nitriding. It was found that different oxides exhibit varying efficiency in catalytic nitriding, mainly influenced by the state of active oxygen on nitrided surfaces. The research results show that ABO(3) oxides have excellent catalytic activity in low-pressure gas nitriding.

Predicting the Onset of Metal-Insulator Transitions in Transition Metal Oxides-A First Step in Designing Neuromorphic Devices

Shenli Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the metal-to-insulator transition induced by varying oxygen vacancy concentration in transition metal oxides, proposing a model to predict the required electrical bias based on vacancy formation energy, permanent polarization, and dielectric constant. Using first-principles electronic structure calculations, the study discusses strategies for minimizing electrical bias in the experimental design and optimization of neuromorphic devices.
