Controllable synthesis of PtO modified mesoporous Co3O4 nanocrystals as a highly effective photocatalyst for degradation of Foron Blue dye

Reda M. Mohamed et al.

Summary: Incorporating PtO nanoparticles into mesoporous p-type Co3O4 enhances the photocatalytic ability for Foron Blue dye degradation under visible light illumination. The PtO/Co3O4 nanocomposite exhibited a four-fold increase in the photodegradation rate compared to bare Co3O4 NPs. The enhanced photocatalytic ability was attributed to the construction of PtO/Co3O4 interfaces, which facilitated the separation of photoinduced charge carriers. The nanocomposites also exhibited easy reusability and long-term stability, making them suitable for practical applications. Photoluminescence and transient photocurrent spectra were conducted to further investigate the suggested mechanism and determine the mobility and separation efficiency of electron-hole pairs.
