The Effects of 810 nm Diode Laser and Indocyanine Green on Periodontal Parameters and HbA1c in Patients with Periodontitis and Type II Diabetes Mellitus: A Randomized Controlled Study

Irina-Georgeta Sufaru et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effects of adjunctive periodontal therapy using indocyanine green irradiation on periodontal clinical parameters and glycated hemoglobin in patients with periodontitis and type II diabetes. The results showed that this adjunctive treatment could significantly reduce periodontal parameters and was more effective than traditional treatment in certain aspects.

Efficacy of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) for nonsurgical treatment of periodontal disease: a systematic review

Marcella Goetz Moro et al.

Summary: The study evaluated the effect of aPDT as an adjunct to SRP in chronic periodontal patients, showing that the combination of SRP and aPDT promoted significant CAL gain and PPD reduction. Indocyanine green-mediated aPDT and high concentrations of phenothiazine chloride demonstrated favorable clinical improvement.

Indocyanine green-mediated antimicrobial photodynamic therapy as an adjunct to periodontal therapy: a systematic review and meta-analysis

Nasir Zeeshan Bashir et al.

Summary: The use of adjunctive ICG-PDT in non-surgical periodontal therapy leads to significant improvements in probing pocket depth and clinical attachment level at 3 and 6 months post-therapy for chronic periodontitis patients. No adverse events were reported. Additional research is needed to explore variables such as different photosensitiser concentrations and parameters associated with the light source.

Clinical and Microbiological Evaluation of Local Doxycycline and Antimicrobial Photodynamic Therapy during Supportive Periodontal Therapy: A Randomized Clinical Trial

Raluca Cosgarea et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that in periodontal patients enrolled in SPT, treatment of persistent/recurrent pockets with subgingival instrumentation (SI) alone or combined with either photodynamic therapy (PDT) or local drug delivery (LDD) may result in comparable clinical improvements. Additionally, the adjunctive use of LDD appears to provide better microbiological improvements for some periodontal pathogens than SI alone or combined with PDT.

Clinical Efficacy of Repeated Applications of Local Drug Delivery and Adjunctive Agents in Nonsurgical Periodontal Therapy: A Systematic Review

Oi Leng Tan et al.

Summary: Out of 16 randomized controlled clinical trials included in the qualitative analysis, only two studies utilizing minocycline gel/ointment and antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) with indocyanine green photosensitizer showed statistically significant differences in primary outcomes compared to their control groups. Although a mean range of PD reduction and CAL gain was observed with repeated LDA application, significant clinical heterogeneity and methodological flaws in the included studies prevent any definitive conclusions regarding the clinical efficacy of repeated LDA applications. Further research with direct comparison between single and repeated applications is needed.

Short-term improvement of clinical parameters and microbial diversity in periodontitis patients following Indocyanine green-based antimicrobial photodynamic therapy: A randomized single-blind split-mouth cohort

Mohammed A. AlSarhan et al.

Summary: In this study, adjunctive treatment with indocyanine green-based antimicrobial photodynamic therapy in chronic periodontitis patients showed significant reduction in periodontal depth and clinical attachment loss. Furthermore, there was a significant decrease in bleeding on probing and residual pocket post-therapy in test sites.

Summary: This study compared the clinical and microbiological efficacy of conventional SRP and PDT using ICG for chronic periodontitis treatment, showing significant improvements in probing pocket depth and clinical attachment loss with PDT compared to SRP alone. However, there were no significant differences in microbiological parameters between the two treatment groups.
