Visible-light-induced mesoporous graphitic carbon nitride-catalyzed trifluoromethylation and perfluoroalkylation of 4-aminocoumarins

Ning-Bo Li et al.

Summary: A heterogeneous photocatalytic 3-trifluoromethylation and 3-perfluoroalkylation of 4-aminocoumarins was realized using mpg-C3N4 as an effective and recyclable photocatalyst without any other additives. The transition-metal-free procedure showed wide substrate scope with air as a green oxidant, resulting in moderate to good yields of 3-trifluoromethylated/perfluoroalkylated 4-aminocoumarins.

Heterogeneous graphitic carbon nitrides in visible-light-initiated organic transformations

Santosh Kumar Verma et al.

Summary: In recent years, g-C3N4 photocatalyst-mediated organic reactions have become an important field in organic chemistry, especially in oxidation reactions and synthetic chemistry. Polymeric g-C3N4 has attracted attention in photocatalytic applications due to its cost-effectiveness and eco-friendliness, but high temperature and O-2 pressure are still required for desired organic transformations. More research is needed to enhance the selectivity in reduction reactions.

Visible-Light-Driven Bisfunctionalization of Unactivated Olefins via the Merger of Proton-Coupled Electron Transfer and Carbene Catalysis

Bei Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel NHC and photo-co-catalyzed alkylacylation of olefins using diazo esters as radical source is reported, presenting a new idea for transient radical generation with the only byproduct being N-2. Compared to previous methods, this process shows great atom economy with reduced discard fragments.

Photochemical Synthesis of Succinic Ester-Containing Phenanthridines from Diazo Compounds as 1,4-Dicarbonyl Precursors

Hai -Bing Ye et al.

Summary: Here we present a simple photochemical method for constructing phenanthridines with synthetically useful succinate units. The reaction proceeds under visible-light irradiation using cheap eosin Y Na as the photoredox catalyst and a diazo compound as the succinate precursor. A wide range of phenanthridines are obtained in moderate to good yields under the optimal conditions. The succinate units in the final heterocycles can be easily transformed into valuable structures such as gamma-butyrolactone, dihydrofuran-2(3H)-one, and tetrahydrofuran. Mechanistic experiments support the proposed mechanism.

Photocatalytic Regioselective Difunctionalization of Alkenes with Diazo Compounds and tert-Butyl Nitrite: Access to ?-Oximino Esters

Yantao Liu et al.

Summary: This study developed a visible-light photocatalytic regioselective difunctionalization of alkenes with diazo compounds and tert-butyl nitrite, providing an efficient approach to gamma-oximino esters under mild conditions. The transformation not only demonstrated the good compatibility of nucleophilic diazo compounds and electrophilic tert-butyl nitrite, but also revealed the preference of alkyl radicals generated by diazo compounds for addition to alkenes over nitroso radicals.

Visible-Light-Induced Multicomponent Synthesis of γ-Amino Esters with Diazo Compounds

Na Ma et al.

Summary: A visible-light-induced multicomponent reaction of ethyl diazoacetate, diarylamines, and styrene-type alkenes has been developed as an efficient method for 1,2-difunctionalization of alkenes. The reaction proceeds through the generation of carbon-centered radicals from diazo compounds by a visible-light-promoted proton-coupled electron transfer process, leading to the formation of-N-amino esters.

Visible-Light Carbon Nitride-Catalyzed Aerobic Cyclization of Thiobenzanilides under Ambient Air Conditions

Jin Bai et al.

Summary: A metal-free heterogeneous photocatalysis using inexpensive graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) has been developed for the synthesis of benzothiazoles via intramolecular C-H functionalization/C-S bond formation of thiobenzanilides under visible-light irradiation. This reaction provides high yields of 2-substituted benzothiazoles without the need for a strong base or organic oxidizing reagents, and the catalyst is stable and reusable after five reaction cycles.

Metal-free g-C3N4 nanosheets as a highly visible-light-active photocatalyst for thiol-ene reactions

Shouren Zhang et al.

Summary: This research focuses on catalyzing the thiol-ene click reaction using two-dimensional metal-free graphitic carbon nitride (g-C3N4) nanosheets under visible light-illumination. The method is green, atom-economic, and inexpensive, showing potential for various substrates and exhibiting superior yields. The photogenerated holes in the g-C3N4 nanosheets play an important role in the formation of thiyl radicals, indicating the potential of g-C3N4 nanosheets as a metal-free, efficient photocatalyst for various organic reactions.
