Theoretical Investigation of the Mechanism of the Hock Rearrangement with InCl3 as Catalyst

Agathe Fayet et al.

Summary: The Hock rearrangement is an acid catalyzed reaction involving organic hydroperoxides and resulting in an oxidative cleavage of adjacent C-C bonds. Its mechanism has not been studied in detail. In this work, we conducted a theoretical study on the Hock rearrangement using InCl3 as a Lewis acid catalyst. We aimed to understand the mechanism of this reaction and rationalize the influence of substrate electronic properties. Our investigation revealed the co-existence of several energetically close reaction pathways and suggested that In2Cl6 species coordinated to the substrate play a central role in the catalytic cycle.

Solid Acid Catalysts for the Hock Cleavage of Hydroperoxides

Jan Droenner et al.

Summary: This article focuses on the importance and challenges of the oxidation and cleavage steps in the production of phenol from cumene. Substituting sulfuric acid with heterogeneous catalysts is a widely explored approach to reduce energy consumption and waste production. Various types of heterogeneous catalysts have shown high yield and selectivity to phenol.

Continuous-Flow Direct Azidation of Alcohols and Peroxides for the Synthesis of Quinoxalinone, Benzooxazinone, and Triazole Derivatives

Akanksha M. Pandey et al.

Summary: Continuous-flow reactors are an ideal tool for synthesizing potentially explosive but synthetically useful organic substances. This study reports the continuous-flow direct azidation of alcohols using TMSN3 as a transfer reagent and Amberlyst-15 as a recyclable catalyst. The study also explores the application of continuous-flow reactors in other organic reactions.

Lewis Acid-Catalyzed Chemodivergent and Regiospecific Reaction of Phenols with Quaternary Peroxyoxindoles

Moseen A. Shaikh et al.

Summary: This study describes the indium-catalyzed regiospecific coupling of substituted phenol derivatives and quaternary peroxyoxindoles for the synthesis of C2 or C4 benzoxazin-3-one-substituted phenols via skeletal rearrangement. The Cu(OTf)2-catalyzed reaction of phenol with quaternary peroxyoxindoles, in contrast, resulted in C2 or C4 2-oxindole-substituted phenol derivatives. The diverse catalytic reaction demonstrated the direct synthesis of biologically important phenol-substituted 2-oxindole derivatives without any skeletal rearrangement.

Indium Catalyzed Sequential Regioselective Remote C-H Indolylation and Rearrangement Reaction of Peroxyoxindole

Moseen A. Shaikh et al.

Summary: Indium catalyzes sequential remote C-H functionalization and C3-indolylation of peroxyoxindole, leading to the synthesis of terindolinone derivatives. In contrast, FeCl3 ·6H2O facilitates oxidative cleavage of peroxyoxindole and its reaction with indole to afford biologically important trisindoline derivatives. A plausible mechanism for these reactions has been proposed with experimental evidence.

Highly Stereoselective Glycosylation Reactions of Furanoside Derivatives via Rhenium (V) Catalysis

Emanuele Casali et al.

Summary: A novel method for forming anomeric carbon-functionalized furanoside systems was achieved using an oxo-rhenium catalyst, showing a broad range of nucleophiles and excellent stereoselectivity. In the case of electron-rich aromatic nucleophiles, a specific anomeric product is formed through equilibration at the anomeric center.
