Stress induced phosphoprotein 1 overexpression controls proliferation, migration and invasion and is associated with poor survival in oral squamous cell carcinoma

Mauricio Rocha Dourado et al.

Summary: In this study, the expression and impact of stress induced phosphoprotein 1 (STIP1) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) were investigated. It was found that STIP1 was highly expressed in OSCC, and its overexpression was associated with shorter survival and higher risk of recurrence. Knockdown of STIP1 reduced proliferation, migration, and invasion of tumor cells, and decreased the number of metastases in a zebrafish model. Furthermore, STIP1 was inversely expressed with miR-218-5p, and transfection of miR-218-5p mimics decreased STIP1 levels and inhibited tumor cell proliferation, migration, and invasion.

Prognostic markers for oral cancer: An overview of the current status and directions for future research

Lilianny Querino Rocha de Oliveira et al.

Summary: In the past few decades, there has been a strong focus on identifying biomarkers for therapy response and prognosis in oral squamous cell carcinomas. Although several biomarkers have been identified, only a few are currently used in routine practice. This review summarizes the recent advances in oral squamous cell carcinoma biomarkers, including clinical and histopathological features, cancer cells, and microenvironment components. The main challenges in translating these potential biomarkers into clinical application are also discussed.

Heat shock protein 47 promotes cell migration and invasion through AKT signal in non-small cell lung cancer

Wei Wu et al.

Summary: The study found that HSP47 is highly expressed in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), and inhibiting HSP47 can reduce cell migration and invasion by diminishing the AKT signal. In vivo experiments showed that inhibition of HSP47 has strong therapeutic effects on NSCLC.

SERPINH1 is a Potential Prognostic Biomarker and Correlated With Immune Infiltration: A Pan-Cancer Analysis

Yu Wang et al.

Summary: This study found that the abnormal expression of SERPINH1 was associated with poor prognosis in multiple types of cancer. SERPINH1 expression correlated with MMR, MSI, TMB, and DNA methylation in various cancers. Furthermore, SERPINH1 expression showed a strong association with immunoregulators and immune checkpoint markers in certain types of cancer. Additionally, SERPINH1 expression was related to immune cell infiltration in multiple cancers. Immunohistochemistry verification confirmed the higher SERPINH1 staining in tumor samples compared to normal tissue, consistent with the overall survival results.

A novel patient stratification strategy to enhance the therapeutic efficacy of dasatinib in glioblastoma

Obada T. Alhalabi et al.

Summary: The mesenchymal subtype of glioblastoma showed higher sensitivity to dasatinib due to increased SRC pathway activation, with SERPINH1 suggesting a potential predictive marker. Stratification based on gene expression subtyping should be considered in future dasatinib trials for better patient selection strategies.

Heat shock protein 47 confers chemoresistance on pancreatic cancer cells by interacting with calreticulin and IRE1α

Akihiro Yoneda et al.

Summary: Disruption of heat shock protein 47 (HSP47) enhances the efficacy of gemcitabine for PDAC cells by promoting the interaction of CALR with Ca2+ ATPase 2 and IRE1 alpha with inositol 1,4,5-triphosphate receptor, resulting in increased intracellular Ca2+ levels prone to oxidative stimuli induced cell death. Ablation of HSP47 also promotes gemcitabine-induced suppression of tumor growth in PDAC cell-bearing mice, suggesting that targeting HSP47 may improve chemotherapy efficacy for PDAC patients.
