Simple borophosphate glasses for on-demand growth of self-supported copper nanoparticles in the reduction of 4-nitrophenol

Poliane P. P. Locatelli et al.

Summary: A single-step synthesis method of copper-doped borophosphate glasses is demonstrated for catalytic reduction of nitro groups from aromatic nitro compounds. The glass matrix acts as a host for self-growth of zero-valent copper nanoparticles on the surface, exhibiting high catalytic activity and excellent reusability. A mathematical model based on the Langmuir-Hinshelwood mechanism is proposed to describe the kinetics of the catalytic hydrogenation process.
