Acupuncture for Knee Osteoarthritis: A Systematic Review of Randomized Clinical Trials with Meta-Analyses and Trial Sequential Analyses

Hao Tian et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the efficacy of acupuncture for knee osteoarthritis (KOA) and calculated the required information size (RIS) for further clinical studies. The meta-analysis showed that acupuncture can reduce pain and improve function activities in KOA patients. However, it had no significant effect on relieving stiffness. Acupuncture was found to be superior to sham acupuncture in reducing pain and improving function. Further research is needed to validate the effectiveness of acupuncture.

Acupuncture for Patients With Chronic Tension-Type Headache A Randomized Controlled Trial

Hui Zheng et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the effectiveness of acupuncture for chronic tension-type headache (CTTH) through a randomized controlled trial. The results showed that the responder rate at both 16 weeks and 32 weeks of follow-up was significantly higher in the true acupuncture (TA) group compared to the superficial acupuncture (SA) group. Additionally, the reduction in the number of headache days was greater in the TA group. Only a few mild adverse events were reported in the TA group.

Acupuncture for cancer-related insomnia: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Jialing Zhang et al.

Summary: This systematic review and meta-analysis explored the efficacy and safety of acupuncture for insomnia in cancer patients. The findings suggest that acupuncture has beneficial effects on sleep quality and is well-tolerated in cancer patients. The meta-analysis revealed significant improvement in sleep quality scores among breast cancer patients receiving active cancer treatments. Further studies are needed to validate the effectiveness and safety of acupuncture for insomnia in people diagnosed with cancer.

Tension-type headache

Sait Ashina et al.

Summary: Tension-type headache is the most prevalent neurological disorder characterized by recurrent headaches of mild to moderate intensity, bilateral location, and no aggravation by routine physical activity. The mainstay of treatment is pharmacological therapy, with recommended preventive treatments including certain medications and non-pharmacological therapies. Despite the widespread prevalence and associated disability, little progress has been made in the field of tension-type headache due to lack of attention and resource allocation.
