Resting State Functional Connectivity Signatures of MRgFUS Vim Thalamotomy in Parkinson's Disease: A Preliminary Study

Mario Stanziano et al.

Summary: Magnetic resonance-guided high-intensity focused ultrasound is a non-invasive alternative treatment for tremor. This study found that the treatment modulated resting state functional connectivity within the tremor network and these changes were associated with clinical outcomes.

Functional connectivity in Parkinson's disease candidates for deep brain stimulation

Summary: This study used RS-fMRI to identify functional neuroimaging patterns predicting the clinical indication for DBS in PD patients. The results showed that network properties and functional connectivity at baseline were associated with DBS eligibility, and longitudinal analysis revealed changes in brain organization and connectivity in DBS candidates over time. These findings suggest that RS-fMRI may be useful in supporting the clinical indication for DBS in the early stages of PD.

Pretherapeutic functional connectivity of tractography-based targeting of the ventral intermediate nucleus for predicting tremor response in patients with Parkinson's disease after thalamotomy with MRI-guided focused ultrasound

Yongqin Xiong et al.

Summary: The study aimed to explore the accuracy and predictive value of using T-VIM in combination with tractography and resting-state functional connectivity techniques to perform MRgFUS thalamotomy as a treatment of PD. The results showed that the overlapping volume and center distance between T-VIM and S-VIM were significantly correlated with tremor improvement. Moreover, pretherapeutic functional connectivity of T-VIM with the ipsilateral sensorimotor cortex, subthalamic nucleus, and visual area was significantly and positively correlated with tremor improvement after MRgFUS thalamotomy.
