Regulatory T cells in ischemic stroke

Hong-yun Wang et al.

Summary: Recent evidence suggests that regulatory T (Treg) cells play a crucial role in immune regulation after ischemic stroke (IS), but their effects on IS outcomes remain controversial. Further research is needed to elucidate the mechanisms by which Treg cells modulate the immune responses induced by IS.

The role of T cells in age-related diseases

Elisa Carrasco et al.

Summary: T cells play a crucial role in age-related diseases, potentially leading to the failure of immune tolerance mechanisms and tissue damage. Targeting T cells could offer new therapeutic opportunities to enhance resilience to age-related diseases.

The TNF-α/TNFR2 Pathway: Targeting a Brake to Release the Anti-tumor Immune Response

Audrey Moatti et al.

Summary: Newly discovered anti-cancer immunotherapies focus on stimulating anti-tumor T cell responses, but a significant proportion of patients do not respond. A novel approach proposes targeting the suppressive action of Tregs on anti-tumoral responses. TNFR2 has emerged as a legitimate target for anti-cancer immune checkpoint therapy, showing potential in overcoming the immune suppression in cancer patients.

Plasma and cerebrospinal fluid inflammation and the blood-brain barrier in older surgical patients: the Role of Inflammation after Surgery for Elders (RISE) study

Sarinnapha M. Vasunilashorn et al.

Summary: In a study of older adults undergoing hip or knee surgery, it was found that surgery did not compromise the blood-brain barrier integrity. After surgery, there was a higher correlation between plasma and CSF levels of CRP and IL-6, with an increase in all three inflammatory markers from preoperative to postoperative 1 month.

Astrocytic interleukin-3 programs microglia and limits Alzheimer's disease

Cameron S. McAlpine et al.

Summary: Communication within the glial cell ecosystem is essential for neuronal and brain health. This study demonstrates that astrocyte-sourced interleukin-3 programs microglia to ameliorate the pathology of Alzheimer's disease by enhancing their ability to clear aggregates of beta-amyloid and tau, ultimately restricting disease progression and cognitive decline. These findings highlight IL-3 as a key mediator of astrocyte-microglia cross-talk and a potential therapeutic target for Alzheimer's disease.

Peripheral and central immune system crosstalk in Alzheimer disease - a research prospectus

Brianne M. Bettcher et al.

Summary: The dysregulation of central and peripheral immune responses in Alzheimer's disease has raised questions about the communication between these systems and its potential as a therapeutic target. While evidence suggests the importance of peripheral-central immune crosstalk in AD, further research is needed to understand the mechanisms and implications for therapeutic interventions. This roadmap provides a comprehensive overview of the current status of research in this area and outlines a research prospectus for future interdisciplinary studies.
