Identification of Biosynthetic and Metabolic Genes of 2-Azahypoxanthine in Lepista sordida Based on Transcriptomic Analysis

1,2,3-Triazine formation mechanism of the fairy chemical 2-azahypoxanthine in the fairy ring-forming fungus Lepista sordida

Summary: 2-Azahypoxanthine (AHX) is a compound that can induce fairy ring formation. It has been found in numerous plants and mushrooms. By studying the fungus L. sordida, it was discovered that reactive nitrogen species (RNS), derived from nitric oxide (NO) produced by NO synthase (NOS), are the key nitrogen sources for the formation of the 1,2,3-triazine moiety present in AHX. It was also found that RNS are involved in the conversion of 5-aminoimidazole-4-carboxamide-1-beta-d-ribofuranosyl 5 '-monophosphate (AICAR) to AHX-ribotide (AHXR), suggesting the existence of a novel biosynthetic route in the fungus. These findings highlight the physiological role of NOS in the biosynthesis of AHX and other natural products containing a nitrogen-nitrogen bond.
