Synthesis and crystal structures of mono(2-hydroxyethyl)dithiocarbamate complexes of copper and indium

[Cu(I)4(hedtc)4] center dot 4THF ( 1 ) and [In(III)(hedtc)3] center dot 3THF ( 2 ) complexes were successfully synthesized from reactions of Cu(II)Cl2 Greek ano teleia2H2O, In(III)CI3, and NH4(hedtc) in aqueous solution. These complexes are soluble in polar organic solvents due to the hydroxy group in the hedtc ligand. Compound 1 forms a tetranuclear cluster with copper-copper metal bonds and a copper-sulfur coordination environment, while compound 2 has indium bound to three hedtc ligands with distorted octahedral coordination. Both compounds contain tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent molecules participating in hydrogen bonding.
[Cu(I)4(hedtc)4] center dot 4THF ( 1 ) and [In(III)(hedtc)3] center dot 3THF ( 2 ) [hedtc =-S2CNHCH2CH2OH, mono(2-hydroxyethyl) dithiocarbamate] were synthesized from reactions of Cu(II)Cl2 Greek ano teleia2H2O, In(III)CI3, and NH4(hedtc) in aqueous solution; these also are soluble in polar organic solvents due to the hydroxy group in the hedtc ligand. Four monovalent copper ions of 1 form a tetranuclear cluster with copper- copper metal bonds and a copper-sulfur coordination environment. The three-dimensional structure of 1 has the parallel arrangement of eight Cu(I)4hedtc4 molecules. The indium of 2 is bound to three hedtc ligands with distorted octahedral coordination. The molecular packing of 2 shows the two-dimensional hexagonal network with three neighboring indium complexes. Both compounds have tetrahydrofuran (THF) solvent molecules that participate in hydrogen bonding of O-H and N-H groups.(c) 2022 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
