Role of decaethoxylated stearylamine in the selective flotation of hornblende and siderite: An experimental and molecular dynamics simulation study

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: This study focused on the collection performance and sorption mechanisms of decaethoxylated stearylamine (DSA) as a high-selectivity hornblende collector. It was found that DSA efficiently collected hornblende, but had a poor collecting ability for siderite. The selective collection mechanisms of DSA for hornblende were attributed to electrostatic adsorption and hydrogen bonding interaction, leading to efficient desiliconization of the siderite flotation.

Interactions between bubble and particles of key minerals of diasporic bauxite through the extended DLVO theory

Ningning Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, the interaction forces between diasporic bauxite minerals (diaspore and aluminosilicate minerals) and air bubbles were investigated using the extended DLVO theory. The results showed that the interactions were mainly repulsive in collectorless solution, and the electrolyte concentration had a significant influence on the interaction forces. The addition of collector reduced the adhesion energy barriers between the minerals and bubbles. Each mineral exhibited a specific interface interaction response with the bubbles under different collector types and pH values.

Insights into the influence of temperature on the adsorption behavior of sodium oleate and its response to flotation of quartz

Shaohang Cao et al.

Summary: In this study, the influence of temperature on the flotation of quartz was investigated. It was found that increasing temperature improved the flotation recovery of quartz by reducing the critical micelle concentration and surface tension of the NaOL solution, increasing the adsorption of calcium species on the quartz surface, and enhancing the interaction between NaOL and the quartz surface.

Adsorption behavior of sodium oleate on iron minerals and its effect on flotation kinetics

Huili Han et al.

Summary: This study systematically investigated the adsorption behavior of sodium oleate on hematite, limonite, and siderite and their corresponding flotation performance. The results showed that Fe atoms were the main active centers for the chemisorption of NaOL, with hematite and limonite having more active sites for NaOL adsorption compared to siderite.

Flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite with guar gum as depressant

Duo Yang et al.

Summary: In this study, guar gum was successfully employed as a depressant for calcite during smithsonite flotation. The mechanism of its function was investigated through micro flotation, XPS analysis, FT-IR analysis, and Zeta potential measurement. The results showed that guar gum can effectively separate smithsonite from calcite by selectively adsorbing on the calcite surface and hindering the interaction between sodium oleate and calcite surface, thus achieving the efficient flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite.

A Review on the Application of Starch as Depressant in Iron Ore Flotation

Swagat S. Rath et al.

Summary: The depletion of high-grade iron ores has led to the need for beneficiation of low-grade iron ores. Flotation is considered the most efficient method to increase the iron content of fine-grained ores that do not respond to gravity or size classification. Depressants are crucial in iron ore reverse flotation as they selectively make iron oxides hydrophilic and prevent them from entering the gangue-rich froth phase. Starch is widely used as a depressant in iron ore flotation. This paper reviews the origin and chemistry of starch, the mechanism of starch-iron oxide interaction, and the application of different types of starch and their alternatives in iron ore flotation.

Flotation separation of smithsonite from calcite with guar gum as depressant

Duo Yang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the use of guar gum as a depressant can effectively separate smithsonite from calcite through flotation. Guar gum selectively adsorbs on the calcite surface and forms a strong Ca-O chemical bond, reducing the number of Ca adsorption sites, thus achieving effective flotation separation.

New insights into selective-depression mechanism of novel depressant EDTMPS on magnesite and quartz surfaces: Adsorption mechanism, DFT calculations, and adsorption model

Haoran Sun et al.

Summary: In this study, EDTMPS was introduced as a chelation depressant to selectively depress magnesite in a magnesite-quartz flotation system using DDA as the collector. Results from micro-flotation tests showed that EDTMPS interfered with the interaction of DDA with magnesite, leading to the successful separation of magnesite from quartz. The study also utilized contact-angle and zeta-potential measurements, FTIR and XPS analysis, as well as DFT calculations to understand the mechanism behind the improved separation efficiency.

Analysis of selective modification of sodium dihydrogen phosphate on surfaces of magnesite and dolomite: Reverse flotation separation, adsorption mechanism, and density functional theory calculations

Summary: The use of SDP as an activator for dolomite and DDA as a collector can enhance the flotation separation of magnesite from dolomite. SDP selectively activates dolomite flotation and promotes the adsorption of DDA on the dolomite surface, while having minimal effect on magnesite flotation. The selective adsorption of SDP onto dolomite is related to its reaction with Ca, as indicated by XPS analysis.

Detailed insights into improved chlorite removal during hematite reverse flotation by sodium alginate

Yafeng Fu et al.

Summary: Chlorite impairs the hematite reverse flotation pulp, but the addition of sodium alginate can effectively mitigate this issue and enhance chlorite recovery rate. Surface tension, solution viscosity, and foam properties tests revealed that sodium alginate improves foam stability, reducing foam generation time and increasing liquid volume in the foam layer. Theoretical analysis of Plateau's foam structure balance law supports these findings.
