Governing Factors for Carbon Nanotube Dispersion in Organic Solvents Estimated by Machine Learning

Yoshiyuki Nonoguchi et al.

Summary: This study developed a method for dispersing SWCNTs in organic solvents using surfactants, achieving high dispersion efficiency. Feature extraction based on machine learning revealed important physicochemical factors that affect the dispersion, which are related to both surfactant and solvent-SWCNT interactions. The organic SWCNT dispersion method developed in this study may have wide applications in nanofluidics and functional materials design.

'Anionic surfactant-assisted the transport of carbon dots through saturated soil and its variation with aqueous chemistry

Jiuyan Chen et al.

Summary: This study investigates the effects of anionic surfactants on the transport of carbon dots nanoparticles in soil. The presence of the surfactant enhances the mobility of the nanoparticles under certain conditions, but it suppresses their mobility in the presence of divalent metal cations. Additionally, the effects of the surfactant on nanoparticle mobility decrease with increasing solution pH.

Stabilization of Carbon Nanotubes and Graphene by Tween-80: Mechanistic from and Simulation Studies

Alpna Bisht et al.

Summary: Polyoxyethylene sorbitan monooleate is commonly used to stabilize dispersion of carbon nanoparticles such as carbon nanotubes and graphene. However, the mechanism of dispersion is not well understood. This study used spectroscopy and molecular dynamics simulations to investigate the mechanism of stabilization of carbon nanoparticles by Tween-80. The results showed that Tween-80 adsorbs onto the surface of carbon nanotubes and graphene through interaction between the alkyl chain and the aromatic rings, and the hydrophilic chains stabilize the suspension by steric hindrance. The simulations also revealed concentration-dependent changes in the nature of interactions between Tween-80 and the carbon nanoparticles, with aggregation shifting from planar to micelle-like structures.

Surfactant-Wrapped n-Type Organic Thermoelectric Carbon Nanotubes for Long-Term Air Stability and Power Characteristics

Shinichi Hata et al.

Summary: The study proposes the use of adsorbed surfactant layers on carbon nanotubes to improve the air stability and thermoelectric properties of n-type carbon nanotubes. Gemini surfactants are found to enhance the dispersion of nanotubes and improve the thermoelectric performance of films. Furthermore, gemini surfactants extend the lifetimes and enhance the thermoelectric performances of n-type carriers more effectively than single-chain surfactants.

A review on stabilization of carbon nanotube nanofluid

Priyanka Yadav et al.

Summary: CNT nanoparticles have high tensile strength, excellent thermal transfer properties, and optimal chemical and physical stability. However, the lack of stable dispersion of CNT in most fluids hinders its industrial exploitation in heat transfer applications. Researchers are utilizing chemical and physical methods to modify the surface properties of CNT for better dispersion, along with various analytical techniques to assess the stability of CNT nanofluid.

Dispersion and fluorescence properties of multiwalled carbon nanotubes modified with hyperbranched poly(phenylalanine-lysine)

Yanli Wang et al.

Summary: Highly branched poly(phenylalanine-lysine) (HBP(P-L)) was synthesized and used to modify multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), resulting in improved dispersibility and excellent linear relationship between fluorescence intensity and mass ratio of MWCNT-HBP(P-L). The modified MWCNT-HBP(P-L) shows potential for applications in optical materials due to its unique dispersion properties and fluorescence characteristics.

Air stability of n-type single-walled carbon nanotube films with anionic surfactants investigated using molecular dynamics

Susumu Yonezawa et al.

Summary: By incorporating SDBS surfactants, n-type properties can be maintained in SWCNT films for an extended period of time due to the uniform coverage of the SWCNT surface, facilitating electron transfer from sodium atoms to the SWCNT. This study sheds light on the potential for enhancing the air-stability of n-type SWCNT films with the use of new surfactants.

Interaction of DNA-Complexed Boron Nitride Nanotubes and Cosolvents Impacts Dispersion and Length Characteristics

Venkateswara R. Kode et al.

Summary: The presence of isopropyl alcohol (IPA) is crucial for the complexation of boron nitride nanotubes (BNNTs) with DNA and enhances their stability. Additionally, the length of nanotubes can be characterized by rheology measurements, and BNNT dispersions exhibit the rheological behavior of dilute Brownian rigid rods.

New insights into the unzippering mechanism of carbon nanotube dispersion via the trigger effect of small charged molecules

Mengnan Yin et al.

Summary: The study compared the dispersion of carbon nanotubes using different surfactants in binary systems. It found a synergistic effect between SDBS and TX-100 in enhancing the dispersion of CNTs, with SDBS likely acting as a trigger due to its small molecular size. However, the synergistic effect disappeared when the concentration of TX-100 exceeded its critical micelle concentration.
