Effects of the number of cationic sites on the surface/interfacial activity and application properties of quaternary ammonium surfactants

Shida Hou et al.

Summary: A new Gemini surfactant, TC-GS, containing four cationic sites, was compared with a Gemini surfactant containing two cationic sites (DC-GS) and a single-chain surfactant containing one cationic site (DTAC) to investigate their surface/interfacial properties and application performance. The results showed that TC-GS had lower critical micelle concentration, faster dynamic adsorption rate, and superior ability to reduce kerosene-water interfacial tension compared to DC-GS and DTAC. TC-GS also exhibited better antistatic performance on polyester fabrics and superior antibacterial ability against both Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacteria.

Effects of oxyethylene groups on the adsorption behavior and application performance of long alkyl chain phosphate surfactants

Chengyi Gong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the adsorption behavior of LAPs with different EO addition numbers and finds that the introduction of longer EO chains can significantly improve their surface tension reduction efficiency and kinetic surface activity. In addition, longer EO chains can also improve the wetting, permeability, emulsification, and foam stability of LAPs.

Study on the properties of sodium lauroyl lactate anionic surfactant and cationic surfactant in a mixed system

Ziyu Qin et al.

Summary: The surface properties and applications of mixtures of an anionic surfactant and cationic surfactant were investigated. The results showed that the mixtures have synergistic effects, resulting in higher surface activity and better application performance. Stronger attractive interactions between the mixed surfactant molecules were observed. Optimal wetting ability, emulsifying capacity, and foam stability were achieved at specific compositions. Vesicles were easily formed under certain conditions.

Summary: The study explored the effects of three metal ions on the mixed system of a single polyoxyethylene chain carboxylate surfactant and a Gemini quaternary ammonium surfactant. The appropriate concentration of metal ions benefits the system, but excessively high concentration is detrimental to stability.

Synergistic interactions in the mixed micelles of anionic amino acid surfactant with cationic gemini surfactant

Xiaoyong Wang et al.

Summary: Synergistic interactions between anionic amino acid surfactant SMS and cationic gemini surfactant 12-3-12 within mixed micelles were found, with 12-3-12 showing stronger interactions. Addition of sodium bromide resulted in significantly decreased CMC and I1/I-3Micelles values in SMS/DTAB mixed micelles, while changes in SMS/12-3-12 mixed micelles were minimal.

Lifei He et al.

Summary: Hydrophobic surfaces modified by pathogens in agricultural production reduce the utilization of pesticides, and surfactants are commonly added to improve wetting and spreading properties. This study found that nonionic surfactants are more effective than cationic surfactants for improving the wetting and spreading of pesticide solutions on cucumber powdery mildew leaves.

Adsorption properties and aggregation behavior of mixed system of anionic/cation surfactants with different structures

Ting Zhao et al.

Summary: The study demonstrates that compared to single surfactants, mixed systems have higher surface activity and more attractive interactions. Micellization of the mixed system is an enthalpy-driven spontaneous process, and the self-assembled structures can be effectively regulated by changing the mixing ratio.

Mixtures of anionic surfactants with single/triple polyoxyethylene chains and Gemini quaternary ammonium surfactant: interaction and surface activity studies

Chunhui Li et al.

Summary: The combination of anionic and cationic surfactants can achieve high surface activity, but precipitation at the isoelectric mole ratio is a common issue. The introduction of polyoxyethylene chains and Gemini quaternary ammonium surfactants can effectively address this problem and enhance the surface activity of the mixed system.

Summary: Research shows that asymmetric anionic-cationic surfactant mixtures are beneficial for promoting middle-phase microemulsions, although there may be a slight decrease in synergism when using these asymmetric mixtures. These mixtures can enhance or decrease surfactant adsorption, depending on anionic-cationic surfactant ratios.
