Establishment of ultrasonic stimulation to enhance growth of Haematococcus lacustris

Sang-Il Han et al.

Summary: This study used ultrasonication at a frequency of 40 kHz to enhance the growth of Haematococcus lacustris and identified the optimal conditions as 20 W of ultrasound output and a 15-day treatment interval. The results showed that under the optimal conditions, the cell density and chlorophyll content increased by 50.00% and 39.01%, respectively. Transmission electron microscopy analysis revealed that ultrasonication caused minimal damage to the cell layers of H. lacustris.

Simultaneous promotion of photosynthesis and astaxanthin accumulation during two stages of Haematococcus pluvialis with ammonium ferric citrate

Yanxia Zhu et al.

Summary: Ammoniumferric citrate (AFC) was used to enhance biomass yield and astaxanthin content of Haematococcus pluvialis by stimulating light harvest in photosynthesis and oxidation induction in astaxanthin accumulation at different growth stages. This resulted in increased astaxanthin and lipid content in the algae cells, providing a new approach for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and producing high-value products.
