A cut-off value of epicardial fat thickness for the prediction of large for gestational age foetuses

Summary: This study aimed to determine the role of measuring EFT using ultrasound in the second trimester in predicting LGA foetuses. The results suggest that measuring EFT once in the second trimester can predict the 90th percentile limit at birth, which is considered the LGA limit.

Effect of maternal diabetes on fetal heart function on echocardiography: systematic review and meta-analysis

A. L. Depla et al.

Summary: Maternal diabetes in pregnancy is associated with fetal cardiac hypertrophy, diastolic dysfunction, and overall impaired myocardial performance. These effects are present throughout pregnancy, with the most profound impact in the third trimester. Further studies are needed to explore the long-term outcomes related to fetal cardiac function in pregnancies affected by diabetes.

Epicardial adipose tissue thickness as a potential predictor of pre-eclampsia

Jing Liu et al.

Summary: In this study, EAT thickness was found to be a potential effective screening parameter to predict PE risk in the first trimester. The study revealed that EAT thickness was significantly higher in PE patients compared to healthy controls, with the early-onset subgroup showing higher EAT thickness than the late-onset subgroup. Logistic regression analysis also indicated a close relationship between the onset time of PE and EAT thickness. Echocardiographic EAT measurement could help identify high-risk individuals for PE early on, before clinical diagnosis.
