The stress response mechanisms of biofilm formation under sub-lethal photocatalysis

Min Chen et al.

Summary: In this study, the researchers investigated the stress response mechanisms of biofilm formation under sub-lethal photocatalysis. They found that under sub-lethal PC, the bacterial abundance and biofilm thickness decreased, but the content of extracellular polymeric substance per cell increased. It was also discovered that the biofilm exhibited resistance to oxidative stress and this resistance was mediated by the secretion of extracellular polymeric substance.

Visible-light driven of heterostructured LaFeO3/TiO2 photocatalysts for degradation of antibiotics: Ciprofloxacin as case study

Nada Y. Tashkandi et al.

Summary: In this study, a favorable strategy was developed to construct highly effective porous LaFeO3/TiO2 photocatalysts for decontaminating Ciprofloxacin (CIP) in water under visible illumination. The complete degradation rate of CIP over 3% LaFeO3/TiO2 nanocomposite reached 100% within 90 minutes, which was 20 times higher than TiO2 NPs. This enhancement was attributed to the synergistic effect between LaFeO3 and TiO2, as well as the formation of 2D mesoporous LaFeO3/TiO2 heterojunction, which improved the mobility and separation of photoinduced charges.
