Facile fabrication of polypyrrole/NiOx core-shell nanocomposites for hydrogen production from wastewater

A. Atta et al.

Summary: This study tests the polymer nanocomposite for hydrogen gas production from wastewater. A film made of polypyrrole (PPy) and PPy/NiOx is prepared using in-situ polymerization technique. The film's ability to generate hydrogen is evaluated, with the formation of NiO and Ni2O3 confirmed by XRD and XPS. The composite exhibits superior optical properties, with band gap values of 2.25 and 1.81 eV, and a PPy/NiOx core-shell structure is observed through TEM. The electrochemical testing reveals that light, wavelengths, and temperature all affect H-2 gas production, with increasing current density values observed under on light, longer wavelengths, and higher temperatures. The study also determines the thermodynamic properties of the photoelectrode response at different temperatures.

Surface characterization and linear/nonlinear optical properties of irradiated flexible PVA/ZnO polymeric nanocomposite materials

Nuha Al-Harbi et al.

Summary: In this study, PVA/ZnO films were irradiated with hydrogen ions at different fluences, and the effects on the structures, morphologies, and functional groups were investigated using XRD, SEM, and FTIR. UV-Vis spectroscopic analysis was also performed to examine the optical properties. The results showed that increasing the number of hydrogen ions led to an increase in the Urbach tail and a decrease in the optical gap. The irradiated PVA/ZnO samples exhibited enhanced structural and optical characteristics, making them suitable for use in optoelectronics.

On the Use of Dolomite as a Mineral Filler and Co-Filler in the Field of Polymer Composites: A Review

Asfa Amalia Ahmad Fauzi et al.

Summary: Polymer composites, with the addition of fillers like dolomite, have gained attention for their potential to improve the properties of polymers. These composites have been widely used in industries like automotive, aerospace, biomedical, and packaging. Dolomite, derived from natural minerals, is an ideal filler due to its abundance, low cost, high rigidity, hardness, and customizable surface chemistry. However, the treatment/modification of dolomite is necessary to enhance its reinforcing capabilities. This review article discusses its usage as a filler in various polymeric materials, the methods used for its treatment/modification, and its potential as a co-filler or hybrid filler in advanced polymer composite applications.
