Machine learning modeling for the prediction of plastic properties in metallic glasses

Nicolas Amigo et al.

Summary: This study employed machine learning models to predict the plastic properties in CuZr metallic glasses. Molecular dynamics simulations were conducted for 100 different samples, and statistical analysis was performed on 17 materials properties. Strong correlations were found between stoichiometry, temperature, structural, and elastic properties with plastic properties. Three regression models were used for prediction, and linear and Ridge regressions showed better performance with coefficients of determination above 80% for three plastic properties. Lasso regression had lower performance with coefficients of determination above 60% for two plastic properties. Overall, this work demonstrates that molecular dynamics simulations combined with machine learning models can provide a framework for predicting the plastic behavior of complex materials.

Machine-learning and high-throughput studies for high-entropy materials

E-Wen Huang et al.

Summary: The development of high-entropy materials (HEMs), with their vast compositional space, requires a high-throughput approach to identify functionalities and establish a materials-property database. This article reviews the use of materials informatics and experimental methods in high-throughput approaches. Machine learning is identified as a crucial tool for accelerating the development of new HEMs. Hierarchical microstructures and heterogeneous grain sizes show the highest potential for applying machine learning in new HEMs.

Data-driven discovery of a universal indicator for metallic glass forming ability

Ming-Xing Li et al.

Summary: The glass forming ability of alloys is closely related to the full-width at half-maximum of the first diffraction peak in the X-ray diffraction pattern, providing guidance for the discovery of bulk metallic glasses. Through experimental and computational methods, it has been revealed that the glass forming ability of an alloy is mainly characterized by its amorphous structure. A strong correlation has been found between high glass forming ability and a large dispersion of structural units in the amorphous structure.

Pronounced fl-relaxation in plastic FeNi-based bulk metallic glasses and its structural origin

Summary: This study reveals a distinct fl-relaxation behavior and excellent plasticity in FeNi-based BMGs, which is attributed to the structural heterogeneity playing a key role in their dynamics, leading to a large amount of loosely packed regions. The pronounced fl-relaxation is also found to have a good correlation with the plasticity for the FeNi-based BMGs, providing potential guidance for the development of plastic BMGs from an atomic structural and glass dynamic perspective.
