Mechanochemically tailoring oxygen vacancies of MnO2 for efficient degradation of tetrabromobisphenol A with peroxymonosulfate

Sylvestre Ndayiragije et al.

Summary: Oxygen vacancy engineering can enhance the catalytic activity of metal oxides. Using a solvent-free mechanochemical method, the VO levels on the surface of commercial MnO2 were successfully tailored, leading to improved catalytic performance. Singlet oxygen, generated from PMS and lattice oxygen of MnO2, plays a crucial role in the degradation of TBBPA. The Mn4+/Mn3+ redox couple is more important in catalytic activity.

Photocatalytic Degradation of Recalcitrant Pollutants of Greywater

Mohammad Aslam et al.

Summary: Water shortage and limited access to clean water are major concerns in many countries. Photocatalytic processing of greywater is emerging as a promising solution, with modified TiO2, ZnO, and TiO2 catalysts showing great potential in degrading organic materials. Combining photocatalysis with oxidants and Fe3+ can enhance the efficiency, although factors such as pH, concentration, and catalyst-loading can significantly influence the photocatalytic process.

A Three-Dimensional Melamine Sponge Modified with MnOx Mixed Graphitic Carbon Nitride for Photothermal Catalysis of Formaldehyde

Rongyang Yin et al.

Summary: This study synthesized sponge-based catalysts with three-dimensional porosity and demonstrated their excellent photothermal catalytic performance for formaldehyde oxidation under visible light irradiation. The sponge's porous framework provided a good surface for material modification and a reliable interface for gas-solid interaction, while the polydopamine layer coated on the sponge increased the catalyst's absorption of light and adhesion of MnOX and GCN. The efficient formaldehyde oxidation was attributed to the sufficient oxygen vacancies generated by co-loaded MnOX and GCN, which facilitated the activation of more O2- in the oxidation process. The study confirmed the reaction mechanism as a classical Mars-van Krevelen mechanism based on the photo-induced thermal catalysis process.

N-doped TiO2 nanotubes synthesized by atomic layer deposition for acetaminophen degradation

Syreina Sayegh et al.

Summary: The structure of titanium dioxide plays a significant role in enhancing the degradation efficiency of micropollutants in photocatalysis applications. TiO2 nanotubes synthesized by atomic layer deposition (ALD) exhibited higher degradation efficiency compared to TiO2 nanofibers prepared by electrospinning, due to their highly ordered structure and high specific surface area. The nitrogen-doped TiO2 nanotubes (N-TiO2 NTs) further enhanced the photocatalytic activity, showing 5 times higher degradation rates than TiO2 nanofibers.

Construction of core-shell BaFe12O19@MnO2 composite for effectively enhancing microwave absorption performance

Fanfan Hu et al.

Summary: BaFe12O19@MnO2 composite with core-shell structure was successfully designed and constructed using a facile hydrothermal method in this study. The introduction of nanostructured MnO2 enhanced the electromagnetic wave absorption performance, and the optimal temperature of the hydrothermal reaction was explored to achieve a maximum reflection loss of -54.39 dB and an effective absorbing bandwidth of 4.64 GHz. The simple preparation method and attractive performance make BaFe12O19@MnO2 a promising candidate as microwave absorbers.

Study on the remediation of tetracycline antibiotics and roxarsone contaminated soil

Lu Zhan et al.

Summary: This study investigated the efficient removal and stabilization of tetracycline antibiotics and roxarsone in contaminated soil using thermal treatment combined with chemical stabilization technology. The heat treatment process of tetracycline antibiotics contaminated soil was found to be controlled by first-order kinetics. The addition of FeSO(4 center dot)7H(2)O as a stabilizer during the heat treatment process resulted in a 96.7% stabilization rate. Through the analysis of arsenic fractions and soil samples characterization, the mechanism of arsenic stabilization in roxarsone was explored.

Morphology control of 3D hierarchical urchin-like hollow SiO2@TiO2 spheres for photocatalytic degradation: Influence of calcination temperature

Yan Bao et al.

Summary: A novel 3D hierarchical urchin-like SiO2@TiO2 sphere with hollow structure and anatase-rutile biphase was synthesized via solvothermal process, and the effects of calcination temperature on its photocatalytic activity were systematically studied. The 3D-UHSTs prepared at a calcination temperature of 700 degrees C exhibited higher photocatalytic activity due to electron transfer and reduced electron/hole recombination. The photocatalytic degradation of RhB followed first-order reaction kinetics, with a rate constant of 0.04654 min(-1).
