Effect of oscillation modes on weld formation and pores of laser welding in the horizontal position

Manpeng Wu et al.

Summary: This paper systematically investigates the effect of oscillation modes on weld formation and pores of laser welding for high-strength low alloy (HSLA) steel in the horizontal position. The experimental results show that circular oscillation laser welding has more uniform energy distribution, less fluctuation of laser spot motion velocity, and more stable plume and keyhole. Circular oscillation laser welding decreases the depth-to-width ratio of the welds, reduces welding spatters, and improves weld formation.

Effect of electric parameters on weld pool dynamic behavior in GTAW

Gang Zhang et al.

Summary: An improved experimental system is used for sensing weld pool dynamics and electric parameters, establishing the correlation between weld penetration and ROI signals. The study finds that welding current, speed, and arc length influence weld pool equilibrium and require fine adjustments.

Effect of electromagnetic arc constriction applied in GTAW-based wire arc additive manufacturing on walls' geometry and microstructure

Miguel Guilherme Antonello et al.

Summary: The new technologies in additive manufacturing for metallic materials have shown promise in achieving complex geometries, reducing cycle time, and minimizing waste. However, further advancements are still necessary for improving efficiency and productivity. Wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) is a popular method for manufacturing medium to large components due to its high deposition rate and flexibility in building size.

Wetting behavior of melt and its effect on lack of fusion in arc oscillating NG-GTAW

Fuxiang Li et al.

Summary: The wetting test was used to study the impact of oscillating arc on melt flow. A new wetting method, single-sidewall wetting test, was developed to analyze the wetting behavior of melt on the narrow gap sidewall in arc oscillating NG-GTAW. The results showed that arc oscillation could enhance the wetting of melt on the plate and narrow gap sidewall.

Characterisation of actual weld geometry and stress concentration of butt welds exhibiting local undercuts

M. J. Ottersboeck et al.

Summary: Automated welding processes produce high-quality welds with smooth and regular global geometry, but the local geometry variations due to dynamic effects impact fatigue behavior; Estimation of stress concentration in welds based on characteristic parameters is common, but underestimation occurs at locations with distinct undercuts; An improved approach is presented to consider the stress concentrating effect of local undercuts at the weld toe.

Investigation into the arc profiles and penetration ability of axial magnetic field-enhanced K-TIG welding by means of a specially designed sandwich

Yanxin Cui et al.

Summary: Experiments show that applying an axial magnetic field during K-TIG welding can alter the shape of the arc-weld pool, affecting the penetration depth of the weld. A model was established to analyze the mechanism of the AMF on the arc shape, revealing that the AMF improves penetration ability by increasing arc force and pressure.
